15 Famous Women Who Are Helping Remove the Stigma Around Breastfeeding

Although no one wants to see a baby go hungry, breastfeeding in public is often frowned upon. But nourishing a child is a perfectly natural and necessary process that should be normalized. Many celebrity women hold the same opinion as well and have posted candid shots of themselves feeding their babies and speaking out in favor of a breastfeeding experience.

1. Emily Ratajkowski

This model isn’t afraid to share breastfeeding selfies with her son on Instagram. “If it seems like I’m always breastfeeding, it’s because I am,” she wittily captioned one of them.

2. Chrissy Teigen

“Normalize that breastfeeding is such a huge, wonderful thing.” Although she’s a huge advocate for women not having to cover up when feeding their babies, Teigen has also admitted that she had to rely on formula as well.

3. Gisele Bündchen

“One of the most special moments I’ve shared with my kids was while breastfeeding. That special look you get, that feeling of connection is unlike anything I have ever experienced,” the supermodel said, sharing her feelings in a 2019 Instagram post, adding that she wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.

4. Bekah Martinez

Bekah Martinez breastfed her daughter, Ruth, for more than 26 months, and decided to start the weaning process when it was no longer an enjoyable experience for mom and baby. At the same time, Martinez was also nursing her son, who is a year younger.

5. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

The former Victoria’s Secret Angel joined the list of celeb moms posting candid shots of themselves with their babies a few months ago. Huntington-Whiteley shared several powerful photos of herself nursing her daughter, Isabella.

6. Hilary Duff

For the actress, breastfeeding left her with more mixed feelings. Although Duff enjoyed bonding with her daughter, as a working mom, she had to stop nursing her at 6 months old.

“I want to say I enjoyed (almost) every moment of feeding my daughter. Felt so lucky to be so close to her and give her that start. I know many women are not able to, and for that, I am sympathetic and very grateful that I could. For 6 wonderful months.”

7. Elsa Hosk

When Hosk posted a few selfies of her first day back at work, many people started criticizing the model. But she quickly shut down any such comments, writing: “Why is the most natural thing so offensive to you? Breasts literally exist, so we can feed our children.”

8. Kate Upton

Although she has called breastfeeding a “superpower,” Kate Upton has also had to deal with her share of the stress and fatigue that’s so common for new moms. She felt pressure to do certain things, like nurse her daughter on the go, so she had to slow down a bit and do things at her own pace.

9. Alyssa Milano

“I can’t believe this is still an issue. When people tell a nursing mom to go into the bathroom to feed their baby, it’s like telling someone to go in the bathroom to eat their sandwich. Would you eat your lunch in the bathroom? Or under a blanket?”

The actress is an outspoken advocate, although she was criticized by some people for breastfeeding her children longer than usual.

10. Karla Souza

The How to Get Away with Murder star nursed both of her children at the same time. She shared her postpartum experience in an Instagram post, saying that, “Bringing this little human into the world has been THE most difficult and painful thing my body has had to go through, but it has also made me feel like a freakin’ warrior...”

11. Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried believes that the more difficult parts of breastfeeding are still not talked about enough. “You become very desperate,” she said in an interview.

“Because up until recently, it’s like a hidden, closeted thing. Breastfeeding is incredibly hard. If you don’t find it hard, you are rare. A rare, lucky person.”

12. Padma Lakshmi

Padma Lakshmi revealed that she doesn’t like pumping, and prefers nursing her daughter directly. She also takes supplements to increase her milk supply, often having to multitask while breastfeeding.

13. Emma Heming-Willis

Bruce Willis’s wife posted a filter-free photo of herself nursing her baby, courtesy of her husband. She captioned the photo: “Breakfast of Champions” sharing the sweet moment with her followers.

14. Mara Martin

“I hope to normalize breastfeeding because it’s a natural thing women can do for their babies. I think women should be able to feed their babies however they want, when they want, and where they want. End of discussion!” Mara Martin, who breastfed her baby on the runway while walking for Sports Illustrated, explained her decision.

15. Ashley Graham

“I’m not going to apologize for feeding my child,” the model responded to people who criticized her for public breastfeeding. Graham nursed her firstborn son for 13 months, and later combo-fed her twins for the first 6 months of their lives.
