Approximately 9.6 percent of the female population has a depression disorder. Not many of us are ready to open up about our mental condition. But some celebrities have decided to share their way to a healthy life, so others can feel like they are not alone and like there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

1. Bella Hadid

For a very long time, Bella had to face a tough battle with depression and anxiety, and it was difficult for her to open up about it. She shares: “For 3 years, while I was working, I would wake up every morning hysterical, in tears, alone. I wouldn’t show anybody that. I would go to work, cry at lunch in my little green room.”

She realizes now that she had burned out and become manic at that time. No one from her close circle could understand what she was crying about.

Hadid had therapy to battle depression, and the important step was to open up about it to people. She explains that sometimes you just need to hear “I love you, I see you, and I hear you.”

The model says that all you need is time and to be alone with yourself to understand your traumas and triggers: “But I want you to know, there is always light at the end of the tunnel, and the rollercoaster always comes to a complete stop at some point.”

2. Lady Gaga

You never know the cost of becoming a superstar. Sometimes you need to sacrifice a lot to become successful. Lady Gaga shared that, for a long time, she couldn’t accept who she was. She woke up in the morning and couldn’t believe she was Lady Gaga.

Then, the pop star became depressed and sad. “I invented myself, Lady Gaga — I curated my life to be an expression of my pain. This is how I overcame my depression, by creating somebody that I felt was stronger than me.”

She spent a lot of time just not wanting to do anything and then slowly started to, as she says, “make music and tell my story through my record.” She just let herself go and create the music that she wanted to create.

Lady Gaga says that you should stop doing things that don’t bring you joy. Once you do that, everything falls into place.

3. Cara Delevingne

Delevingne opened up, saying that her mental issues began as a result of her struggles in the classroom. She couldn’t accept that she could fail at something: “I didn’t feel like I was ever good enough. The fact I couldn’t do as well as other people made me hate myself.”

This psychological attitude had settled into her psyche for quite some time. She felt something dark inside of her but couldn’t figure out what the problem was. The unresolved trauma opened her up to an unhealthy lifestyle and bad habits.

She had a turbulent year recently and totally realized that she had forgotten about herself while spending all her time trying to make others happy: “It’s heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun.”

Now she’s trying to put herself first. She tries to live in the moment and is very careful about her career choices: “Work is extremely important, but work is secondary because my self-work is the most important thing.”

4. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato started experiencing depression at the age of 7. She had very tough moments but was not ashamed to talk about it in interviews because sometimes the issue can be “very, very dark.

Currently, she leans on her close circle of loved ones and her art to help her overcome her depression. Through her albums, she shares what is really important to her.

Her main message to people is to not give up and keep fighting for a better life: “Life ebbs and flows. And just as happiness can be fleeting, sadness can as well. So, we have to hold onto that hope, and we have to just keep fighting and powering through.”

5. Kirsten Bell

Kristen Bell became an advocate for mental health. She tries to convey the idea that you shouldn’t let depression fester. The moment you feel it’s coming, you need to be operative because she knows how deep it can go when you don’t do anything and just struggle.

To deal with this feeling, she goes to therapy and takes medications. But only now is she convinced that you shouldn’t be silent when it comes to depression.

“It’s important for me to be candid about this, so people in a similar situation can realize that they are not worthless.”

Kristen is convinced that everyone has something to offer this world, and they shouldn’t feel alone because many of us can experience tough mental anguish. Just be aware of it and don’t deny it.
