A Woman Rescued a Baby Buried Alive and Fate Reunited Them 20 Years Later
Some stories make us believe in the goodness and miracles of life. One of them happened to a woman who, after going for a run with her dogs as she normally did, found an abandoned baby buried alive. Her quick action managed to save his life, and she never imagined what would happen several years later.
It all started in 1998 when Azita Milanian went for a run with her dogs. One of them, Tango, started sniffing and scratching the ground. Milanian got a closer look and saw tiny feet sticking out of the ground. At first, she thought it was an animal, but then she heard the cry of a baby.
Carefully, she began to dig up the little one, who was wrapped in a blue towel. She took the baby in her arms and wiped its dirt-covered face. “Please don’t die. I am here with you. I love you,” she said to the baby.
The baby was taken to the hospital with severe hypothermia, and the doctor said it was “almost a miracle” that he had survived. The nurses named him “Baby Christian.” Milanian visited him several times and cried when she saw him.
She couldn’t adopt him because his story was in the media, and she feared he would be tracked down. However, she wanted to keep in contact with him, but when he was adopted, she was prevented from seeing him. “It was a frustrating experience,” the woman said. “I dreamed that he would find me, just like we found each other on that day.”
Whitaker grew up in a loving home in Gardena, completely unaware of how he’d been found. His middle name was Christian, but he didn’t know why he had gotten it.
Sometime later, the mother of one of Whitaker’s friends wrote to a radio station to ask if anyone knew about his background to be able to tell him more about his life story.
That’s how they had their long-awaited reunion. “I’ve been waiting for you for 20 years,” Milanian said with tears in her eyes as she hugged Matthew Whitaker. The woman took him to the place where she found him. They walked together around the spot where they first saw each other and Whitaker’s jovial and cheerful mood quickly transformed.
Back in the car, Milanian asked him if he was okay. “This could have been my grave,” he said with a lump in his throat, but she sat down next to him and said sweetly, “You were wanted.”
