10 Acting Duos Who Have Played Couples in More Than One Film
Movies provide us with a lot of fantastic stories and there’s so much variety that everyone can enjoy their own kind of love story. But of all the genres, romantic comedies have managed to take us to the moon and back, thanks to their wonderful characters. None of that magic could have been taken to the big screen without the actors that naturally showed their chemistry. And that’s especially hard when you are playing a romantic couple. Of course, audiences can feel that chemistry and that is what makes them fall in love with these dynamic duos. So much so, that producers thought it would be great to have them work together again and again in other movies.
Bright Side compiled 10 acting duos who’ve worked together on more than one movie and melted our hearts with their love stories time and again.
1. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
We are talking about one of the most iconic couples that Hollywood has ever seen. We loved to see them playing a couple, trying to balance their romantic life with their secret work as spies, without the other one knowing about it. Mr. and Mrs. Smith was the former couple known as Brangelina’s first movie together. The film was made back in 2005 and, after several years of being together in real life, both actors starred in By the Sea, a film directed and written by Angelina Jolie. By the Sea’s shooting took place during the couple’s honeymoon in Gozo.
2. Woody Allen and Diane Keaton
Another pair of actors who have worked together on a number of films are Woody Allen and Diane Keaton. The director, writer, and actor first starred with Keaton in the now-classic play called Play It Again, Sam, which was key to Keaton’s growing career and turned her into a rising star. Later they co-starred in the adaptation of the play to the big screen. They also starred together as a couple in Sleeper, Love and Death, Annie Hall, Interiors and Manhattan. Talk about a dynamic duo!
3. Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart
This couple has acted together in films revolving around teenage love stories. Most of these films are known for their alternative, millennial-like unfoldings. The films they have worked on together talk about broken romances, in a world where action pursuits involving secret projects that take place in gangster territories are just a common thing. Nothing too dramatic, as you can see... Their joint performances and chemistry onscreen caught so much attention that they were invited to work together in 2009’s Adventureland, then in 2015’s American Ultra, and finally in Woody Allen’s Café Society, released one year later, in 2016.
4. Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner
Douglas and Turner were not only one of the most attractive couples in the ’80s Hollywood scene, but they clearly showed an amazing chemistry on screen. Think about movies like Romancing the Stone, and its sequel, The Jewel of the Nile, or the now-classic The War of the Roses. Their chemistry was so real that many fans speculated about whether or not they actually had a real affair off-screen. Time went by, and Turner revealed to the public some details about the type of relationship she held with Douglas back in the day. It turns out they were never together. No matter how much it seemed those 2 could have been together for a long time, they both decided to continue their careers separately and end their professional relationship.
5. John Cusack and Catherine Zeta-Jones
When Cusack and Zeta-Jones were wildly popular and surrounded by other successful actors, they decided to take on 2 projects together. They recorded both films at the same time, but they were supposed to be released a year apart. We’re talking about High Fidelity and America’s Sweethearts. As you probably know, both romantic comedies became classics of their genre.
6. Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta
This couple made us feel many emotions thanks to their great performances in classics like the musical Grease. This is an iconic film in the history of cinema and it even became a trend-setter after it was released. It caused such a stir that both Newton-John and Travolta became major Hollywood stars from that moment on. They were reunited 5 years after Grease’s release to shoot Two of a Kind. This comedy and fantasy film revolves around a couple of angels, who, in order to stop a deluge that would end humanity, must make Newton-John and Travolta’s characters fall in love.
7. Jon Hamm and Kristen Wiig
This duo projected a natural chemistry when Jon played Kristen’s character’s friend with benefits in Bridesmaids. That very same year, they both set out to play a couple who were used to having intimate relationships all the time, in Friends with Kids. In the film, they are waiting for the birth of their child at the same time as their best friends. The film revolves around the difficulties and the meaning of becoming parents for different types of couples.
8. Jason Segel and Emily Blunt
In the 2010 film Gulliver’s Travels, Jason Segel played Horatio, a prisoner who went to prison because he fell in love with Emily Blunt’s character, Princess Mary of Lilliput. 2 years later they worked together again on The Five-Year Engagement, a romantic comedy about a couple whose engagement is interrupted and postponed for a long time by a series of events that test their relationship. These events put the couple’s love for each other to the test and allow them to discover whether it’s true that they are really in love with each other.
9. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz
The first time this couple appeared in a movie together was in 2001. The movie we’re talking about is Vanilla Sky, a popular psychological thriller that was full of suspense. The whole story is narrated by Cruise’s character, who is supposed to be in an interrogation room confessing everything that happened to a psychiatrist. A year later, Cameron made a small cameo appearance in the action and crime masterpiece Minority Report, starring Tom Cruise. And finally, in 2010 they were reunited to star in the action film called Knight and Day, which combines amusing pursuit scenes with hints of comedy and romance.
10. Elizabeth Banks and Paul Rudd
Wet Hot American Summer is a comedy about the last day of summer camp. This cult film was heavily criticized back when it was first released, but that didn’t stop both actors from working together again. In fact, they played a couple again in the comedy Role Models. They then worked together in Our Idiot Brother. But this time, Paul Rudd wasn’t really Banks’ partner. He was just a man who kept meddling in his sisters’ lives, one of them being Banks.

Deeply influenced by her late mother, Marcheline, Angelina Jolie’s relationship with her was profound. Marcheline’s passing had a significant impact on Angelina, shaping her approach to motherhood and life. Angelina’s bond with her father, Jon Voight, was tumultuous, but they’ve recently made efforts to reconcile, especially after her mother’s demise.
