15 Moments That Prove the Heart Is Right, Even When It Seems Crazy

Life often gives us a choice — to follow the call of the heart or the rational reasons. Much can depend on this, and it can be difficult to choose how to act. The heroes of these stories decided to follow the call of their hearts, and this is what happened in the end.

  • I dated a penniless man. He never once invited me to a café or gave me flowers. One day he says, “I’m having money issues right now, so I’m offering you something else. Come over, and you’ll see.”
I went, and he had baked a pie, cooked everything — simple food, but very tasty. And he was so caring in many ways — fixing everything in my apartment, bringing tea in a thermos if we went out. And I fell in love! I decided he was the one for me, and money wasn’t that important.
Then he found a great job, so now our finances are in order, but the love was already there. It turned out those were truly temporary difficulties, not just lazy excuses. We got married 4 years ago, and a couple of years ago, we bought an apartment.
  • At 75, my grandmother suddenly became active and started going to a nearby town. She didn’t share any details. We went through a bunch of theories. Then, by chance, the truth came out, and we were stunned.
A neighbor sent a photo from the station, where my grandma was standing with a man her age. It turned out to be her first love. When she married someone else, he waited. And now they’ve been visiting each other like this for 10 years.
  • I never believed in love at first sight, but when I met my future husband, I instantly thought, “That’s him!” I was 20, traveling. He worked at the reception desk in the hostel where I stayed. We chatted for 3 nights in a row, right up until my departure.
For 6 months we exchanged messages, but an ocean separated us. He got a girlfriend, I got a boyfriend. One day I found his picture on the hostel’s page. We started talking again, and one day I told him I was flying to his country for a “bachelorette party,” though that wasn’t true.
I flew over and drove for 4 hours to some remote place just to meet him. My close ones were shocked by this story. But soon we got married, and we are very happy. © beesandsnakes / Reddit
  • I was 45 when I went back to school. I’d worked blue collar jobs all my life, and was a high school dropout. My daughter started taking paralegal classes and I thought, “I could do that.”
So I got my GED and signed up for a 2-year paralegal certificate program through the local community college. Fell in love with the law. Also discovered I was good at it. I had several professors who were lawyers tell me I’d be wasted as a paralegal and should go to law school.
So I transferred to a 4-year school. Worked full time through undergrad and graduated with honors. Got into law school. I graduated law school at 55, the oldest in my class.
But I’d gone from being a high school dropout to a lawyer in just 10 years. Passed the California bar first try and I’ve been a public defender ever since, which is the only thing I ever wanted to do with it.
I’m 60 now but I’m healthy and energetic and have a lot of years left. I love what I do, I’m very good at it, and it’s the best move I ever made. © madcats323 / Reddit
  • 2 years ago I stumbled upon a sales job at a floral shop and what I thought was going to be another random job until I found a better one turned out to be something I love! Even though I was just sales, I always wondered around the designer area and well I’m learning to be a floral designer now! I’m so lucky to have great coworkers and that the new head designer is super nice and will teach me. © Mitcheese1092 / Reddit
  • A few years ago, I was completing my master’s degree and went to Paris for a 2-month research trip. While there, I met a girl in the lineup for the opera and knew almost instantly that she was the one.
3 weeks after meeting her, I worked up the courage to visit the chocolate shop where she worked and declare that I was falling for her. I convinced her that we could make things work despite the fact that I lived and studied in Canada.
Upon my return, I gave up my apartment, sold or gave away all my belongings except for 2 suitcases’ worth of clothes, told my supervisor I would be taking a year off from school, and quit my job.
I moved to Paris a few weeks after that. We’ve been together for 3 years, and now live together back in Canada. Never been happier in my life. © holymadness / Reddit
  • I was driving down a dirt road so narrow that only one car could pass. I often drove there, but one day I had the most uneasy feeling ever before a turn.
I slowed down, and at that moment, a red pickup truck sped around the corner at high speed. If I hadn’t slowed down, it would have crashed into me. My intuition saved me. © Pennywises_Toy / Reddit
  • I filed for divorce because I fell in love with a coworker. In my new marriage, I am very happy, and we've been together for more than 5 years.
Last year, despite the fact that my family didn't support my decision, I spent all my savings and opened my own business. I really love what I do, and I'm succeeding! My parents and sister don't like what I'm doing. Well, so be it. No one else can dictate to me how to live. © NekoLaw / Reddit
  • I took my first solo trip in my life. Went to Paris, which was also my first trip ever to Europe. My husband hates flying, and although he initially agreed to go too, he changed his mind after thinking about the long flight across the ocean.
I slept on the news that he had decided not to go and when I woke up the next morning I knew I was going to go anyway. It was the most amazing, stressful, beautiful, enlightening journey I have ever had in my life. I'm so glad I followed my heart! © 2Old4This***_ / Reddit
  • My best friend's mother passed away and he couldn't take her cat in. I knew immediately he was my cat. He needed me and really at the time I needed him.
My husband didn't want to bring another cat in, especially one so young, because his cat was a senior and not used to being around other cats. I convinced my husband to just try things out and if it didn't work then okay.
Mr. Darcy has been with us for about 7 years and has made my life so much better for it. He greets me at the door, always sits next to me on the couch, is a total sweety to guests when they come over and is just a great cat!
My husband's cat is great too, but she's been his for her entire life. It's nice to have my own little buddy and I hope my friend's mother knows he's in good hands. © FillsYourNiche / Reddit
  • I used to earn a hefty amount working as an engineer for BMW. I was assembling sports cars, surrounded by lifeless machines and objects. I didn’t love my job. The smoke and motor oil made me feel melancholic, and I felt like a soulless machine myself.
One day, I came across the book “The Secret Life of Trees.” At that moment, I decided to follow my heart and quit.
Now, I am a naturalist, working with nature and helping animals. I wake up looking forward to a new day and feel a deep connection with my work. The love for nature that lives in my heart helped me find my purpose. © Rich_Shock_7206 / Reddit
  • When I was 15, I decided I wanted to be an artist. My parents, and pretty much everyone I met afterward, refused to take me seriously. I moved out at 17, worked for 10 years on my art and supporting myself at the same time.
It was not until I was 27 that I finally got enough support that I was able to get into an art college. Today I teach art, married a writer, creating my own comic book. Doing what I love. Don’t regret anything. © Princeofcat*** / Reddit
  • I was pet sitting my friends’ dogs. She lived down the street. I must have been about 12. I had fed them dinner about an hour before and I was playing a game on my computer when I had this feeling that I should check on her dogs.
It was a very strong feeling. I told my parents I wanted to go just to make sure everything was okay. My parents said the dogs were probably fine but if I really wanted to go I could.
When I went, the gate had been opened and the dogs were gone. Luckily my parents and I found them not too far away in the park. But wow, who knows what would’ve happened if I didn’t go check on them and waited until the morning to feed them breakfast.
Turns out the dogs had figured out how to open the gate. © BlabBehavior / Reddit
  • In college, a guy walked into my class who I’d never met before and I just knew we would end up married. It just popped into my head as a fact like the “sky is blue.” We didn’t even talk at all that whole time we were in the class together. We started dating 3 years later and now we’re married and have been together for 10 years. © xoxopitseleh12 / Reddit
  • When I was 12 years old, I was walking down a busy street with my mom and grandma, and we saw an injured pigeon. I put it in a box and brought it to our garage. I cared for it until it recovered and then began taking it outside.
Slowly, it started trying to fly, and one day it flew up to the fence, looked at me, and took off. It had mesmerizing silvery eyes, different from regular pigeons.
A year later, a strong, stunning pigeon flew in, settled in our garden, and built a nest. It had those very same silvery eyes. © Unknown author / Reddit
