A Mom Makes Soaps From Breast Milk and SELLS Them Online
Breast milk is often dubbed “liquid gold” for a valid reason. It possesses the ideal nutritional composition for a baby and contains a wealth of antibodies, antiviral components, and other disease-fighting substances. Consequently, some mothers are exploring innovative ways to transform their breastmilk into practical and beneficial products.
The idea of using breast milk in soaps came unexpectedly.
Britni Eddy, a mother from Idaho, found herself in tears when her frozen breast milk supply, accumulated nearly seven months after giving birth, was rendered unusable. The mishap occurred when her husband accidentally forgot to reconnect their freezer while cleaning the garage. But rather than discarding the spoiled milk, Eddy decided to make the best out of a bad situation.
“I saw that somebody had posted about something similar happening, and they made breast milk soap, and I thought, ‘Oh, I should try that out,’” Eddy shared.
After experimenting with various recipes, she eventually discovered a combination that suited her needs.
Breast milk products have a number of benefits for the skin.
Eddy’s point of using breast milk in skincare lies in its potential benefits: “It helps with aging, wrinkles, stretch marks, and dry skin. It’s not just for a baby. In a baby, it’s going to help with diaper rash, it’s going to help with eczema, it’s going to help if they have any cuts, and it helps heal those sunburns.”
Although she admits that some people may find it strange she says: “I think people are just uneducated about it. They don’t understand the benefits that come with breast milk as far as skincare and nutrition.”
Her husband was unsure about this idea at first.
Eddy admitted that her husband initially had doubts about using the soap she made from breast milk but has since become a fan. “He swears by this soap. At first, he said, ‘This is kind of weird, I don’t know,’ and then now he literally goes to work and brags to the guys at work about it,” Eddy shared laughing.
She emphasized that breast milk soap is something that people should experience for themselves.
“It’s very beneficial for your skin. Do your research about what breast milk can do so that we can kind of undo that stigma of, ‘Oh, this is weird, like it’s someone’s breast milk, I don’t really want to touch that, let alone use it.’ Because it really is beneficial,” she added.
It seems like nowadays breast milk is indeed widely used in skin care. Recently, the singer Halsey also admitted that she confidently uses it on her face too.
