Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’ Story Proves That Even True Love Has to Wait for the Right Time

People say that sometimes we meet the right person at the wrong time, and only a few couples-to-be get a second chance to meet again. Actors Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher met when they were 14 and 19 years old respectively, so it seemed that nothing more than a friendship would ever happen between them. However, fate brought them back together 14 years later and now they are one of the strongest couples in Hollywood.

In 1998, the first episode of the hit sitcom That ’70s Show aired. Incidentally, that’s where Ashton Kutcher made his acting debut as Michael Kelso. Among the cast of the series that opened the doors to Hollywood was a young Mila Kunis, who 17 years later would become his wife. Mila, who began her acting career at the age of 9, hardly knew this was going to be her opportunity to be launched to fame.

Mila and Ashton practically grew up together on the set of That ’70s Show. Although their characters, Jackie and Kelso, were a couple for a few seasons, for the actors the romance was just something that happened onscreen. When filming began, Mila was 14 years old, while Kutcher was 19. For him, Mila was like his little sister, he has even said that he used to do her chemistry homework for her.

“At first I think she thought I was good-looking. Shortly thereafter, I was just annoying to her because I was like a big brother,” Kutcher once recalled.

To get the role of Jackie, Mila had to tell a white lie. She told casting directors that she was about to turn 18, as she needed to be that age to audition, but she didn’t specify when. So it’s no wonder that her first on-screen kiss, when her character had to kiss Kelso, was her first kiss in real life too. What no one expected when watching that scene is that this would be the first kiss of what would become one of Hollywood’s most stable couples.

“I was like, ’Oh, he’s so cute, it’s the Calvin Klein model!’” said Kunis. “Then I was like, ’I have to kiss him?’ I was so nervous and uncomfortable. I had the biggest crush on him.”

After season 7, Ashton did not renew his contract in order to focus on his movie career, which allowed him to appear in movies like The Guardian. This ended his in-person co-working relationship with Mila, but they always kept in touch. “We’d pop up on each other’s thing and be like: ’Hey, oh my god! How are you? How’s life?’ I wasn’t thinking about him romantically at all!” the actress said.

In 2005, Kutcher married Demi Moore. Thus becoming stepfather to the 3 daughters of the actress that was 15 years older than him: Scout, Tallulah, and Rumer. However, the couple split up in 2011. As if by fate, that same year, Mila ended her 8-year relationship with Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin.

Finally, Mila and Ashton met again at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards, and that was the first time there was a feeling beyond friendship. Mila says she saw a man walking and thought that he was an attractive man. But it wasn’t until he turned around that she realized it was Ashton. “I thought it was the strangest thing I was looking at this guy, and it was someone I’d known since forever,” she said.

However, although Kutcher felt a spark when he saw her, he wasn’t ready to start a new relationship due to his recent divorce.

Ashton then planned to introduce Mila to his friend, unbeknownst to her, at a party he hosted at his house, but the friend never showed up. As the night went on, the chemistry between the 2 became undeniable until, later that night, they had their first off-camera kiss. “It was pretty mutual. It was obvious something was going on,” Ashton said.

And while they’ve spent so much time together since then, they came to an agreement that they would not start a relationship and would just have fun together. 3 months later, it was no longer fun for Mila, as she was developing bigger feelings for Ashton. When she decided to share her feelings with him, Kutcher asked her to move in together and that’s when they finally started an official relationship.

They started dating thinking that they would never get married. But, in 2014, they shocked the world when Mila was seen sporting a beautiful engagement ring. The actress said, “I think it took everyone by surprise. When I said, ’Yes, I want to do this,’ I think it even took him and me by surprise.”

In October of that same year, they welcomed their first daughter, Wyatt Isabelle. And finally, after 17 years of knowing each other, they married in a beautiful ceremony in 2015. A year later, Dimitri, their son, was born. Currently, they live in a sustainable country house and Ashton does not hesitate to share his life next to Mila on his Instagram account — she’s his friend and the love of his life.
