Terri Irwin Reveals Why She Chose to Remain Single After Steve Irwin Passed

Family & kids

Terri and Steve Irwin’s love epitomizes true soulmates. It was all planned from the start, and they were destined to be together. He may not be physically present, but his love and care live on in Terri, who shares it with their children and beautiful family.

The start of their story as soulmates

Steve Irwin dedicated his life to nature and studied animals. He spent most of his time researching and becoming a zookeeper at his parents’ wildlife park in Australia. Terri met Steve when she was 27 years old. She was on vacation with her friends at the Great Barrier Reef, like a perfect story gradually revealing how 2 soulmates found each other.

Steve and Terri met on a crocodile show he was hosting, and she was in awe. After the show, she approached Steve, and they just talked the whole afternoon. After all the talking and connecting, 8 months later, they got married. Terri described Steve as sweaty and dirty with all the work at the zoo, then he asked her if she wanted to get married, and Terri replied that she would love to, and she said, “It just felt like we’d always been together. It was amazing!”

The birth of their beautiful family of 4

Their love bloomed, and they had 2 children, Bindi and Robert. The couple raised them to love nature, similar to Steve’s childhood. Bindi was born in 1998, and Robert in 2003. The parents were ecstatic, as they could share their love and care as a family for wildlife. They were excited about the memories and adventures they would experience in the future.

The last moments with his family

Terri remembered that Steve said, “I’m not going to film anymore. I’m just going to spend time with my kids.” Pouring all their love and attention into their kids. Unfortunately, in 2006, Steve died at 44 years old.

Even in his death, he was doing the thing he loved the most. Terri said, “I remember him at the airstrip waving goodbye. I felt so bad for Robert because he was too little in his seat belt, and the fun police didn’t take his seat belt off so he could see his dad and wave goodbye. That was the last time we saw him.”

Dating speculations for Terri

When Steve passed away, people kept asking her if she would re-marry or find someone since she was a young widow. She was rumored to be dating many men, like Paul and Hulk, Russell Crowe, and Richard Wilkins. But she responded that she was too busy to have that. She went on to decline any speculation surrounding the topic.

She said, “I always felt with Steve, if I didn’t marry Steve, I wouldn’t have gotten married. I wasn’t dating. I wasn’t even looking. I was 27 years old and thought my life would be work. Then I met Steve and fell in love. The meaning of life is unconditional love. If you can achieve that, I think you’re set!”

Being faithful and sticking with her soulmate until the end

She continued, “You know, I keep saying this, and maybe 15 years later, people are finally starting to believe me. Steve was it for me. That’s just the way it is. I had a big love, and it was enough to last a lifetime.” Even after all these years, she’s continued her journey as a mom and a loyal wife to Steve.

Love that continues in a way Steve would appreciate

Bindi and Robert continued to show their love for their late father by reminiscing through sharing photos on the internet. They have a unique annual hashtag, #SteveIrwinDay, which commemorates the memories and all the good moments he had with animals, people, and, most importantly, his family.

He never failed to be a dad and a husband when they were kids. Though he was tied to wildlife, he still gave most of his time to his family. It shows in the legacy he left behind. His family carries on Steve’s love and passion for wildlife as they continue to explore the wilderness together with the same wit and excitement Steve had.
