6 Tips to Help You Keep Your House Free of Insects Without Dangerous Chemicals

Pests can turn your chill house into a battlefield. You would probably call special services to get rid of roaches and ants, but all those chemicals that they use are not healthy for human beings. Luckily, there are some safe, effective ways to solve this problem.
We at Bright Side fight for health and cleanliness and are sharing some tips that can help you win the battle against pests without causing yourself any harm.
1. Get a plant.

2. Use cucumbers.

It sounds weird, but specialists say that it’s quite an effective method. Make cucumber slices and put them in places you’ve noticed the roaches. The smell will keep them away. Also, there are compounds that cockroaches dislike. Change the cucumber slices out for fresh ones once a week.
The fridge is one of the places that roaches love to visit. Just smash a cucumber and leave it there. Crushed cucumbers can repel up to 90% of cockroaches.
3. Use baking soda.

Control ants and roaches with the use of baking soda. There is an active ingredient that works against plant fungi and powdery mildew, and when it is eaten by insects, it releases carbon dioxide bubbles that kill the pests.
Dampen the area a bit with water (you can spray it with an atomizer) and then sprinkle about 2 cups of baking soda on it. Then wait for a half-hour and pour a cup of vinegar on it. It should be a very effective way to keep the bugs away.
4. Make a trap.

Make a trap yourself with the use of a plastic bottle. You can repeat the same one that’s shown in the picture. Just add some water with soap afterward.
This homemade trap is a good solution for a person with allergies to chemicals.
5. Use cinnamon.
If you have a problem with pests, cinnamon is a good deterrent. Use cinnamon inside and outside your house. You need to find an entryway for pests and leave cinnamon powder in the path. It won’t kill the insects, but it’ll stop them from coming inside.
6. Use essential oils.
Not only will this make your house smell nice, but it will stop pests from entering. Simply use peppermint oil. Just mix 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil with 250 ml (8 oz) of water. Shake and spray it around doorways and windows.
You can use neem oil as well. Buy it in a ready-to-use bottle against pests.
