During the last few decades, the average age of first-time mothers has steadily increased. Although there are some risks with becoming a parent later in life, there’s also research proving that there are many benefits too. For example, children of older mothers usually have taller kids who get better grades in school.

1. Hilary Swank

Hilary Swank announced her first pregnancy in October 2022 at 48 years old. The actress is expecting twins with her husband, Philip Schneider. “This is something that I’ve been wanting for a long time, and my next thing is I’m gonna be a mom.”

2. Sandra Bullock


Sandra Bullock became a first-time mom at 46 when she adopted her son, Louis. 5 years later, she decided to adopt another child, welcoming her daughter, Layla, into the family.

3. Naomi Campbell

The supermodel chose to become a mother for the first time after 50 via surrogacy. Her daughter, Valerie, was born in 2021. Campbell revealed she always knew she’d eventually become a mom.

4. Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn was 41 years old when she gave birth to her first child with comedian John Mulaney. “I’m so, so happy and at the same time I’m struggling (weird to feel both simultaneously yet so grateful to have all the happiness to keep me afloat),” the actress said about her postpartum journey.

The comedian and her husband welcomed twins via surrogacy in 2020 after struggling for years with several IVF treatments. At the time of her children’s birth, Wiig was 47 years old.

Eva Longoria was 43 when her son, Santiago, was born. “Santi was meant to be with me at this stage in my life. I’m patient, I don’t work as much — even if it doesn’t seem that way! It’s the right time,” the Desperate Housewives star said about motherhood.

The actress and her husband, Benji Madden, welcomed their daughter, Raddix, in 2019. Diaz was 47 at the time. Like some other celebrities, the couple decided to not share photos of their baby to protect her privacy.

The Sex and the City actress turned to adoption, just like her character on the show. She welcomed her daughter, Gemma, at 46 years old, and 7 years later, Davis also adopted her son, Wilson. She’s raising her kids as a single mom.

Janet Jackson gave birth to her son at 50 years old, whom she once described as the “greatest gift of all.”

10. Chloë Sevigny

The actress became a mom at 45 years old, welcoming a son, Vanja, with her art director partner. Although she loves motherhood, Savigny has also opened up about feeling “mom guilt” from time to time, especially when she’s working and is away from her son.
