Kate Hudson Explained How She Uses a “Genderless” Approach to Parenting

Previously Kate Hudson described herself as a “strict parent,” saying that she has certain rules in place that she doesn’t negotiate with her kids. However, despite the importance of discipline in her parenting style, the actress also allows her children to express themselves freely and supports their individuality using a “genderless” approach.

Kate doesn’t want to raise her daughter with labels.

Kate Hudson has shared that she intends to raise her first daughter, Rani Rose, without imposing labels. In an interview, the 39-year-old actress discussed her “genderless” approach to parenting and emphasized the importance of treating children as individuals. She stated, “I think you just raise your kids individually regardless—like a genderless [approach]. We still don’t know what she’s going to identify as.”

Kate Hudson spoke about her youngest daughter, Rani, saying that at the moment, “she is incredibly feminine in her energy, her sounds, and her way.”

She is raising 3 kids.

Kate is also raising 2 older boys, and for her, it is relishing the experience of having another female in the house. The actress expressed her excitement about dressing her daughter in cute kids’ clothes, which differs from the experience of raising her 2 sons: “With the boys, it was just like onesies... actually, I did pretty good with the boys.”

For Kate, the ’genderless’ approach to parenting involves shifting the conversation away from gender stereotypes, particularly those that are commonly associated with females: “Not all girls want to be a princess, some want to be king. And that’s fine by me. I just try to raise my kids to be good people with the best tools to face this big crazy world.”

Singer Pink has also shared that she is raising her children in a “gender-neutral” household, although she prefers to describe her parenting style as “label-less.” The singer has spoken openly about wanting her children to be able to express themselves freely without feeling confined to specific gender norms.
