Scientists say that boredom can be good for us because it can make us more creative. But still, your cleaning process doesn’t have to be boring at all. In fact, it can be more than satisfying with the right products, like “Pop-Up” Eco Sponges. Using them can be pretty mesmerizing due to their functional purposes.

As a bonus, we also compiled a list of different useful sponges for any occasion you might have. Don’t forget to check it out!

These sponges do the job perfectly. When they arrive, each sponge is extremely thin, but dip them into cold water, and voilà! They expand greatly and it looks so fun. That is how you draw attention to daily chores.

Why do we recommend this product?

  • First and foremost, they pop up as described!
  • The 12 color-coded sponges come in a “pack of cards” size box. They will fit anywhere, which makes storing them so much easier.
  • Their dye is natural and non-toxic.
  • They are pretty and bright, so they can be used alternatively. For instance, some people make reusable “water balloons” from them.
  • They’re made from natural cellulose.
  • They can be washed in a washing machine.
  • The sponges can be composted when they’re finished with their job.
  • The packaging and even the inner bag (made from cornstarch) are compostable too.
  • And on top of that, a tree is planted for every purchase. It will be planted on your behalf through the seller’s tree-planting partners.

And the color range is amazingly uplifting!

Check out these happy buyers’ reviews:

These sponges are great. I haven’t used them for their conventional purpose but have instead made reusable alternatives to water balloons. I cut them into strips and tied them together in a star shape. My children soak them in water and throw them at each other. They are so much more environmentally friendly than traditional water balloons, and they work well. Plus, I can compost them when they eventually start to fall apart. The colors look nice too. They have already had a lot of use and are holding up well. When I finish my current washing-up sponges, I will definitely be getting some for use in the kitchen. There is the added bonus of how small a package they come in. A pack of 12 regular sponges from the supermarket takes up quite a lot of space on the shelves. These take up far less space, but they expand really well in water. — A Customer

Fabulous sponges! They pop up as described, and they are durable and absorbent, which is what you want from a sponge. Every part of the product and packaging is compostable, so I feel like I’m doing my bit for the environment! — Amazon Customer

For starters, the deciding factor for me to buy was their reply here on Amazon saying the dye is natural and non-toxic. I’ve been using cellulose sponges for a while, but I was always suspicious of the vibrant colors. Additionally, they are cheaper than other cellulose sponges I’ve bought before. Once they arrived, there was another obvious green aspect: the package was so tiny it fit through my letter box easily. Inside the carton, the sponges come inside a cornstarch liner. Now let’s put them to work. Soak it up. It’s instantaneous. The feel is a bit more plastic-y than other cellulose sponges I’m used to, but this actually makes it seem like it won’t rip as easily. It doesn’t produce as much foam, but we all know that’s unnecessary. It’s soft enough to clean corners from the get-go. So overall, I’m very happy I opted for Composty! — L Ihara

Promising review:

I am always looking for little swaps I can afford to do to remove throwaway plastics. Sponges are a bugbear of mine, but I’ve always struggled to find a really good fit. The previous reviews on this product help me see the difference between compostable sponges like these and other biodegradable brands that actually use harmful glues etc. to hold the sponges together. My big worry was the cost. Obviously, more natural products are quite pricey when compared to the awful disposable packs of 5 or so you can grab at a supermarket. But I am so happy with these. I am still on my first sponge (now August, purchased in May). It has only really just started to degrade to the point of considering swapping it out. It’s durable, cleans really well, it’s only just breaking down a little bit. It’s easy to clean the sponge itself — it doesn’t seem to hold onto old food bits, stains, or smells. This is the thing I am most happy with. Even now, at the point of looking to move on to the next sponge, it still doesn’t smell! I had so much trouble with constantly trying to find new ways to wash/clean/bleach smelly sponges (no dishwasher, which seems to be the main way!) with not much luck, and these ones just seem to clean out so easily that no nasty smelly residues seem to hold on at all. I am really happy. They are a great value purchase, considering how long they can last and what a great job they do. I don’t have to feel guilty when it’s time to move on to the next sponge either, as I know it will all naturally break down. Small wins where we can. — Miss H.

This is the first natural sponge I’ve ever owned & I’m honestly shocked at how pleased I am with this purchase. It’s so much better than anything else I’ve used (& far better environmentally than those cheap plastic mesh things I’d often buy).”

I am very pleased with this honeycomb sponge. I could feel the difference just in a week. My skin feels smooth and radiant. I suffer from eczema and not all sponges go well with my skin. However, this sponge has a mild exfoliating property that soothes the skin after a shower. It’s worth buying. — Anu Stephen

1. Not only is this product great for washing, but it can also be used surprisingly alternatively: “Loofah is great for cage birds. They love to rip it up. If you buy ready-made bird toys, they are so expensive. This is a good value for the money, and I’ll be back to buy more.”

The product is 100% natural and eco-friendly. Biodegradable. The sponge gets softer after you wet it, which makes it smooth on the skin.
