According to a study, married people are more satisfied with their relationship and trusting of their partner than unmarried couples who only live together. And while finding the person you want to spend a lifetime with can be a tough journey, it is often one that’s worthwhile.

Bright Side believes that there’s a “right” person for all of us somewhere out there, and we are glad that these 15 people were lucky enough to find them.

  • On our third date, I got food poisoning. He held my hair back, slept in the bathroom with me, helped me change my clothes, and walked a mile to the store to get Coke syrup for me. That’s how I knew. We’ve been married for 30 years. © Liv-Julia / Reddit
  • This is going to sound so silly, but he was busy at a meeting and asked me to check his planner (that he left at home) for him and relay the note. The note directly above the one I was supposed to find read: “Remember to buy yourself a chocolate banana ice cream tomorrow.” Something about how earnest that note was for himself just got me. © wheresmylobster / Reddit
  • I was a single mother of 2. He loved them just as much as he loved me. One day, one of the kids was upset because their bio dad had been mean to them. I looked at him on the couch and he was teary. I asked him what was wrong and he said, “None of you deserve to be treated this way, I promise to love and protect all of you and to never hurt any of you.” He stuck to his word. © Accio_m***a / Reddit
  • Very early into the relationship, I went to watch one of his basketball games. At one point, there was a very heavy argument between the teams and some of the players started to push each other and a little cluster was formed. I was trying to see where he was and thinking, “Ugh, what a bum...” And there he was! Far away from the fight, walking on the court very slowly, waiting for it to be over. When our eyes met, he did this silly little dance and kept walking. There. It was right there. © HoochieMama- / Reddit
  • She went to hop on the bed, miscalculated how springy it was, bounced off, and got stuck between the bed and the bedside table, upside-down, legs flailing in the air. She couldn’t free herself, and I was too incapacitated with laughter to help her for a good 5 minutes. © Merlord / Reddit
  • I was dating my then-girlfriend for about 3 months. My parents worked minimum wage jobs, and her parents were well off and owned their own business. I was ashamed to tell her what my dad did so when she asked about my parents, I kind of dodged the question. She knew what I was doing and said, “You should never be ashamed of your parents, they’ve worked so hard to get you where you are; I’m so proud of them.” I couldn’t help but break down. She was right. I knew right there and then that I would marry her. © wolfpack1986 / Reddit
  • She woke up from a nightmare and I shushed her and calmed her down like I usually do. She leaned over, kissed my cheek, and thanked me. She apologized for waking me up and I realized that even though I usually want to be alone 99.9% of the time, I didn’t want that anymore. © Fivefootatlas / Reddit
  • He had a very cute cat that would wait outside the house for him to return from work and would follow him down the road to the shops. That cat really loved him and they are good judges of character. I figured someone who treated his cat right would treat me right. 20 years on (and on to cat #3) and I have been proven right every day. © Foxygroom / Reddit
  • Mine was when I imagined what it would be like to not have my then-girlfriend around. It was an eye-opener. I suddenly realized how precious she had become to me. It made me see how much I loved her and how great we worked together. We’ve been married for almost 8 years and are going strong! © robbzilla / Reddit

When I first started dating my boyfriend I had been sexually harassed by someone and was afraid of men getting near me so after a week I tried breaking up with him but he asked if he could come to my place and talk about it, so we did and he told me we should take it the way and tempo I wanted because he would never hurt me and make me afraid of him. We have now been together for a year and I believe this is going to last forever
