Having a successful comeback after a long break can prove to be difficult in any career, especially in the movie industry. But for some actors, disappearing from the spotlight for a while hasn’t affected their fame negatively. In fact, they were able to make an exciting comeback after several years.

1. Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan began her career as a child actor, becoming famous for playing twins in The Parent Trap. After several other successful movies, Lohan ran into some trouble and, over the past decade, took a long hiatus from Hollywood. She had lead roles in 2009 in Labor Pains and in 2013 in The Canyons, but these films failed to gain critical acclaim. After disappearing from the spotlight and only making guest appearances here and there, the actress will be returning in 2022 in Falling for Christmas, which she also co-produced.

2. Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy became disillusioned with the industry after receiving several awards for “worst actor” and decided to quit the business for a while in the 2010s after filming A Thousand Words. He returned in 2016 for a lead role in the dramatic film, Mr. Church, but soon after took another break that lasted several years. Finally, returning to the genre that made him famous, he filmed the sequel, Coming 2 America, in 2021.

3. Cameron Diaz

After starring in Annie alongside Jamie Foxx in 2014, Cameron Diaz started focusing more on being an entrepreneur. While many of us assumed we’d never see her act again, Diaz will soon be unretiring for another movie with Foxx, called Back in Action. The production of the action-comedy will commence later this year.

4. Tobey Maguire

After his lead role in the biopic, Pawn Sacrifice, Tobey Maguire stopped appearing on-screen for 7 years, working as a producer and voice actor instead. In 2021, he had a brief appearance in his iconic role, Spider-Man, and in 2022 he’ll also star in Babylon.

5. Meg Ryan

The famous actress’s latest released movie was in 2015, which she also directed and produced. In 2023, she will be returning in another leading role in What Happens Later, taking on the role of director as well.

6. Daniel Day-Lewis

After filming Lincoln in 2012, Day-Lewis felt like he couldn’t find another role of the same importance. But 5 years later, he decided to accept the leading role in Phantom Thread. It seems like the actor took another sabbatical after his 2017 appearance, and he’s currently not working on any new projects.

7. Taylor Lautner

After filming a movie and starring in the TV show, Scream Queens, in 2016, Taylor Lautner stopped starring in movies until 2022. For the comedy film, Home Team, he decided to return to his acting career in 2022.

8. Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie took a 4-year-long break after starring as the lead in and directing By the Sea. She returned to the big screen for her iconic role in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in 2019 and has worked on several other projects since then.

9. Cole Sprouse

After the huge success of The Suite Life, Cole Sprouse went on a break in order to study at New York University. After graduating in 2015, Sprouse decided to return in 2017 for Riverdale, and he’s been playing a lead role in the series ever since.

10. George Clooney

After Money Monster, Clooney stepped away from acting for a few years. However, he bounced right back in 2020 with a leading role in Midnight Sky. He also appeared in Ticket to Paradise this year.
