12 Celebrities’ Shoes the World Can’t Stop Talking About

Most celebrities have to do things to attract attention to themselves. One way to do this is to wear unusual items. In trying to look stylish and unique, they sometimes choose awesome outfits, but other times, they’re more crazy than anything else. And very often, it’s the details that make the entire look unforgettable, like the shoes.

We at Bright Side decided to recall times when celebrities’ unusual shoe choices were widely discussed.

Blake Lively

For one of her recent public appearances, Blake Lively chose a monochromatic look: a scarlet dress with diamonds and red Manolo Blahnik shoes. But the jewels on the classic shoes looked out of place, and the actress decided to paint them with nail polish. Later, she apologized to the designer for what she did.

Elle Fanning

In 2021, Loewe became one of the main hits during Fashion Week thanks to their shoes with heels that looked like strange objects — a nail polish bottle, a rose, a cake candle, and a broken egg. The shoes were often discussed online, but they weren’t seen in real life until Elle Fanning decided to wear a pair. She described them as “an egg-cellent outfit for the morning.”

Tilda Swinton

Not a lot of people in Hollywood are brave enough to appear on the red carpet wearing the same outfit twice. But Tilda Swinton is.

During the premiere of Memoria, where she portrayed the main character, she showed up wearing shoes that were 10 years old. People online noticed that she had worn those same shoes in 2011 during one of her interviews. So it wasn’t only a fashion decision, but also a sustainability lesson: this is her way of showing that excessive consumption is not the way to go.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has never tried to be a typical Hollywood celeb. Instead of choosing shoes from the latest collections of big-name brands, as her colleagues do, she often appears on the red carpet (and sometimes in her everyday life) wearing the craziest shoes you can imagine. She once appeared wearing 9-inch black patent leather platform boots. Very few people would wear such shoes anywhere but the stage, but Lady Gaga did it in the city.

Angelina Jolie

In 2014, during the premiere of Maleficent, Angelina Jolie had a collaboration with Christian Louboutin. Together, they created shoes with a curve at the heel. The shoes were inspired by the image of the main character.

Jolie wore them during the entire promo tour for the film, so a lot of people discussed them. But it wasn’t just for the purpose of making sales: the money earned from these shoes was given to charity.

Helena Bonham Carter

We love Helena Bonham Carter because she can be weird in the best possible way. In 2011, she appeared at the Golden Globe event wearing different shoes: emerald green on one leg, and scarlet on the other.

When she was asked about her shoes, she said, “Why not wear mismatching shoes? Who says we can’t? I was just having fun. For me, fashion is all about fantasy and putting unlikely things together. That’s what I love. I genuinely love dressing up.”

Celine Dion

Celine Dion has around 10,000 pairs of shoes in her collection that she stores in a warehouse in Las Vegas. Of course, there are some truly unique pieces in this big collection. One of them is a pair of Saint Laurent boots covered with crystals, worth $10,000.

Sandra Bullock

Everyone was looking at Sandra Bullock’s legs in 2015 when she arrived at the premiere of Minions wearing shoes with pictures of the animated characters on them. On the tips, there were funny eyes in protective glasses, exactly like the characters, and there were eyelashes above the heels. The replicas of the shoes with Bullock’s autograph were later presented at the Charity Buzz auction.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Just like her character from Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker loves shoes. In 2011, her love resulted in her extravagant look that included Christian Louboutin shoes that looked like lion paws. Even though the shoes were covered by the long dress, they still sparked a lot of talk.

Kim Kardashian

At the beginning of her relationship with Kanye West, Kim Kardashian wasn’t a fashion icon, and during her first pregnancy, she often made mistakes with her outfits. One time, when she was due quite soon, Kardashian tried wearing sandals with transparent plastic straps. It wasn’t the best idea for swollen legs. And the paparazzi captured the failure and published the photos everywhere.

Dua Lipa

Knee-high and thigh-high boots are always a bold choice for any red carpet event. But there are even greater heights. In 2017, Dua Lipa appeared at the ASCAP Awards wearing dark gray boots that reached all the way up to her waist. She folded the top of one of the boots, perhaps to let her embroidered dress be visible.

Frances McDormand

We’re used to seeing celebrities during Oscar ceremonies wearing luxurious and glamorous dresses. But Frances McDormand doesn’t care much about these rules. In 2019, she wore an elegant long dress and simple suede Birkenstocks during the Academy Awards. Her outfit, which combined haute couture and comfort, was the bravest one that day.

Which of these shoes did you like the most?

The remarkable bond between Angelina Jolie and her adopted son Maddox is a testament to her commitment as a mother. Despite the challenges of the adoption process, their relationship has grown into an inspiring mother-son bond, with Jolie ensuring Maddox’s cultural background is incorporated into his upbringing.
