11 Trust-Breaking Moments That Left People Speechless

Trust, when broken, is hard to mend. The pain of betrayal can create deep, enduring wounds that may last for years, or even a lifetime. These people have shared how they misplaced their trust in the wrong people.

  • I started to think my husband was tracking me. Every time I was minutes from home, he’d call and ask if I was on my way. My schedule was random, so it felt too perfect. I asked him how he always knew. He laughed and said it was a coincidence, but then it never happened again. Not once. That’s when my gut tells me that something was off. So I decided to test it. One day, I left my phone at my parents’ house and went home without it. I just showed up at our home. He was there with another woman. He’d been cheating. All the “coincidental” calls were just him making sure he had enough time to cover his tracks. © Kelsey R. / Bright Side
  • I went on a date with a woman from the office. I thought we had good chemistry and got along well. She couldn’t find her phone, so I tried calling it, and someone from the restaurant answered. I went back in to get it for her, and the waiter showed me I was saved in her contacts under “Free Food.” © Sol-Blackguy / Reddit
  • My ex-girlfriend had a 5 yo old daughter when we started dating. Each year, when her daughter started school, they always asked my girlfriend who would be authorized, other than her, to pick her up in the event of an emergency; she always put me first. When her daughter reached sixth grade, my girlfriend put her next-door neighbor instead of me as the person authorized. She never gave me an explanation as to why, but after that, I felt the trust was gone in the relationship. We stopped seeing each other a few months after her daughter was out of sixth grade. © wyoflyboy68 / Reddit
  • I dated a guy for 14 months. Then I found out he had given me a fake name. Then I found out he had a fiancée. Still stings. © KatIsStunning / Reddit
  • My GF of 10 years admitted to having feelings for someone we knew, and that she could no longer be monogamous. We broke up shortly after. That was 2 years ago. I’m stuck living alone in the house we bought together, and it’s really grinding me down. Our lives were so intertwined, and now it all feels so fractured. It’s so hard to heal when your environment reminds you of what you lost. © de***edge / Reddit
  • I found out my boyfriend had married another woman while still with me. We broke up approximately 11 hours ago. I discovered this by seeing a text message and then using Facebook to find her. And lo and behold, there were my beautiful boyfriend and his beautiful bride, happy at their wedding.
We were together for 3.5 years. Apparently, he met me after they initially broke up. Then, 1.5 years into our relationship, he met up with her again and rekindled their romance without telling me anything. © hetero***tic / Reddit
  • My blonde friend was sure her BF cheated. She found a long, dark, curly hair in his bed. They fought, she left, and came to my place. When she hugged me, she froze. Her eyes widened. “It was you,” she said. Before I could say anything, she pointed down at her coat. A long, curly, dark strand of my hair was stuck to the velcro on her sleeve. Turns out she’d been at my place earlier that week, and my hair must’ve gotten caught on her coat. She wore it to her boyfriend’s, tossed it on his bed, and probably slept right next to it. Cue full-blown relationship meltdown over her own coat. © Andrea D. / Bright Side
  • I’m a big Taylor Swift fan. My best friend insisted on getting tickets for both of us. Afterwards, she ghosted me for months until I found out she had sold them to make more money from them. I was so upset at losing my friend, and this event I was excited for, my parents bought tickets in the same area again. The ticket at the time cost 300, when my dad repurchased it for me and my sister, it was $1000. © saanviss*** / Reddit
  • I’ll never forget the day my ex wiped out our entire joint savings account. We had been together for five years and were planning to buy a house. I had been diligently saving up for the down payment, and our account had grown to a substantial amount. © No_Worker3244 / Reddit
  • I thought it’d be funny to leave my lipstick on my boyfriend’s car and then act confused. I asked, “Babe... whose is this?” trying to look all serious. His face went so pale, like all the color just vanished. I laughed at first, but he just stared at the lipstick, then at me. He looked confused and nervous. I started feeling weird about his reaction, so I quickly told him, “Okay, okay, it’s mine. It was a joke.”
He sighed and smiled a little, but he still looked kind of haunted. Then he said something I didn’t expect, “I would never cheat on you. But if something like that ever happened... I wouldn’t have a way to prove I didn’t.” That stuck with me. It was just a prank, but for a second, I felt like I couldn’t trust him. © Rachel J. / Bright Side
  • Organised a birthday party. Everyone invited showed up except her. Everyone kept asking me where she was, and I also had no idea, but I had to tell a lie to cover up for her. Acted so composed, but I was dying on the inside. Never felt so betrayed. Later learned she went out with some other dude. So yeah, Pain. © Unknown author / Reddit
