Edward Blake. An ordinary life turned upside down — or a man who quietly watched television while his wife became the victim of a crime upstairs? With more questions than answers and a case too knotted to unravel, Jessica suspects he’s protecting someone.

Then she comes home one day, and her husband utters the words no one ever wants to hear. Sit down... I have something to tell you.

Now, Jessica must fight not only for the man she defends but for the man she thought she trusted with her life — her husband.

Promising review: Wow, from the moment I picked this book up, I couldn’t put it down. Read it in 2 days. Snuggled on sofa, cup of coffee, and totally got drawn in and got lost in the story as it unfolded. Such a fantastic storyline, and I’d love to see this as a film!! Amazing. So full of emotions, twists, and turns. @Wifey 2019

Promising review: I haven’t read a book in years but promised myself I would get back into reading! I chose this, and it didn’t disappoint. So many twists and turns along the way! Really warmed to the characters. I’ve gone on to read nearly all of Claire Douglas’ books. This might just be my favorite — a close call with the girls who disappeared. @Marchieee

3. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. Get ready to be enveloped by a heart-wrenching story!

Synopsis: Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up — she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan — her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

Promising review: The book had me gripped from the very first few chapters. It’s a beautiful yet very upsetting story. One of my favorite reads, even got a few people onto the book after I read it. You fall in love with every character and the story, especially Lily. And with Ryle too, which is where it gets hard closer to the end. The story had me in laughter, tears, and anger. A big mix of emotions. Will definitely be rereading this story at some point. Will be borrowing this book to a couple of friends, too as I got them very interested. @Amazon Customer

4. The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell. A cold case. An abandoned mansion. A family hiding a terrible secret. Prepare to be hooked.

Synopsis: Midsummer 2017: Teenage mum Tallulah heads out on a date, leaving her baby son at home with her mother, Kim.

At 11 p.m., she sends her mom a text message. At 4:30 a.m., Kim awakens to discover that Tallulah has not come home.

Friends tell her that Tallulah was last seen heading to a pool party at a house in the woods nearby called Dark Place.

Tallulah never returns.

2018: Walking in the woods behind the boarding school where her boyfriend has just started as a head teacher, Sophie sees a sign nailed to a fence.

A sign that says: DIG HERE...

Promising review: Oh, my word. I was a bit worried about reading this, to be honest, but all my work colleagues are raving about how great it is, and they weren’t wrong. I loved how all the characters came together, how you read about the events of “that night.” And how the present day works things out. If you like a book that keeps you gripped to the end, that you can’t put down, and of course, a mystery, then I highly recommend this. It is the first book by Lisa Jewell I have read, but it definitely won’t be the last now I have discovered her. @Mooreybobs

5. The Dark Hours by Michael Connelly. A superb thriller from the master of detective novels.

Synopsis: A FOUL PLAY YEARS IN THE MAKING
A crime in the middle of a street party seems a senseless tragedy. But the victim had a dark past that came back to haunt him.

THE DEEPER YOU LOOK
Detective Renée Ballard connects the foul play to an unsolved case last worked by ex-LAPD legend Harry Bosch. But then a new crime shatters the night shift...

THE DARKER IT GETS
The Midnight Men are a deadly pair of predators who stalk the city during the dark hours and disappear without a trace.

Promising review: Gripping storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Loved the characters, and I will definitely read more books in this series. @hey1234

6. The Day I Fell Into a Fairytale by Ben Miller. The best-selling classic adventure and a sheer delight for kids.

Synopsis: Lana and her brother, Harrison, used to love playing together — until Harrison decided he was too old for games. But when a trip to the supermarket uncovers a magical portal to the world of fairytales, Lana discovers that stories aren’t a game. With the fairytale world in danger, can Lana convince Harrison to believe again, before it’s too late?

Promising review: My 8-year-old son will not put this book down! This is the first book he has read independently, and I cannot believe how well he has been able to follow the story. He tells me what is happening with such excitement, and it’s just so lovely to see him so engrossed. Beautiful illustrations which build the imagination throughout the story, and I also love that it’s written slightly larger, so I find that helps him to read clearer. Highly recommended, we have already chosen our next one by this author. @Sophie
