Being creative has a positive impact on us, it helps us increase our sense of hope and self-worth, and it makes us feel good. Some kids go beyond that and they invent incredible stuff, like a device that cleanses lead out of dirty water and makes it drinkable.

We at Bright Side have gathered a few of our favorite inventions made by kids, and compiled them for you.

Darius Brown — bowties for pets

Having struggled with not only speech but also comprehension and a fine motor skill delay from a young age, Darius vastly improved when he turned 8 while never wavering before his challenges. After the natural disasters of Hurricane Harvey and Irma, he was moved and decided he wanted to make a change to help displaced dogs look a bit dapper to help with their adoption, and so his adventure began.

Now he makes handmade bowties that dogs and cats can use, and donates them to shelters across the USA.

Jonah Larson — crochet

Being a crochet prodigy, Jonah has turned the profits he has made from his creations into helping others. He funded the “Jonah’s Hands” Library in Ethiopia in the village where he was born, and as of now, he’s also raising money to build them a science lab. On his Instagram page, there are also video tutorials where he teaches others how to crochet.

As he likes to say: crochet brings the world together one stitch at a time.

Gitanjali Rao Tethys — a water cleansing device

At the age of 15, Gitanjali became Kid of the Year. Inspired by the Flint water crisis in Michigan, she went on to develop Thethys — a device that cleans the lead out of contaminated water. From a young age, Gitanjali has had a passion for changing the world, and with that in mind, she’s striving to make a difference.

Lily Born — cups that don’t spill

Parkinson’s disease makes people lose balance and shake often. Lily’s grandfather suffers from this, and with that in mind, she decided to help him when it came to spilling drinks. She did that with a special cup she made. Just one year later, her dad spilled a drink on his computer and she made him one too, this time out of ceramic.

When he noticed how great of an invention it was, they both decided to help others and with the help of some supporters, the Kangaroo Cup went into production.

Newburgh’s kids — Christmas lights

The town of Newburgh, in Scotland, has a very unique and special way of decorating with Christmas lights. The kids from this town take a sheet of paper at home and make their own drawings, and the one that wins the contest gets their design made into a Christmas light. They’re more expensive, but this way, the kids are included in the festivities’ decorations.

Do you know of any other kids that are making a difference in this world?
