8 Exercises All People With Tired Eyes Need to Do

year ago

The seeing process is so important that, according to scientists, it makes up for 50% of human brain functionality. As we age, many of us notice eyesight deterioration and hours of working with computers just worsens this problem. But there’s no need to worry, because there are some simple exercises that will soothe your tired eyes after a long working day.

Bright Side has prepared a set of exercises for tired eyes that you can do anywhere.

1. Near and far focus

Do this exercise standing or sitting upright.

  • Place your thumb in front of you at about a 10-in distance and focus on it for 10-15 seconds.
  • Focus on an object 10 to 20 ft from you for 10-15 seconds.
  • Finally, focus on an object far from you (a tree or a building, for instance) for another 10-15 seconds.

2. Side-to-side eye movement

Do this exercise standing or sitting upright.

  • Look to the left, not moving your head, and focus on an object you can see. Then look to the right and focus on an object you can see.
  • Move your eyes side to side 5 times. Repeat this 3 times.

3. Up and down eye movement

Do this exercise standing or sitting upright.

  • Look up and down and focus on what you see.
  • Move your eyes up and down 5 times in each direction. Repeat this 3 times.

4. Diagonal eye movement

Do this exercise standing or sitting upright.

  • Look down to the left. Move your eyes diagonally and look up to the right. Focus on the objects you see.
  • Change directions. Look down to the right and move your eyes up to the left.
  • Repeat the exercise 5 times in each direction. Repeat this 3 times.

5. Circle eye movement

Do this exercise standing or sitting upright.

  • Start rolling your eyes slowly in a circle clockwise. “Draw” 5 circles.
  • Change the direction and roll your eyes in a circle counterclockwise. “Draw” 5 circles.
  • Repeat this 3 times.

6. Blinking

Do this exercise standing or sitting upright.

  • Blink slowly 10-15 times per minute.
  • Do this exercise for 2 minutes.

7. Palming

Palming exercise is a perfect way to soothe the optic nerve.

  • Sit in a darkened room with your elbows resting on the table.
  • Warm your hands by rubbing them together and place your palms over your eyes.
  • Visualize total blackness and breathe deeply. Do the exercise for 5 minutes.

8. The 20/20/20 exercise

If you spend all day in front of a computer screen, take a pause every 20 minutes and stare at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This exercise will give your eyes a regular rest during the work day.

Bonus: Spa for the eyes

Doing exercise is a good way to soothe your eyes. But if you want to enhance the positive effect of these exercises, try a mask for your eyes. This mask, for instance, uses only 3 ingredients:

  • 1 spoon of shredded carrots
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon of aloe vera

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, apply the mixture around and under your eyes, and leave the mask on for 15-30 minutes. Rinse the mask off with water.

These exercises have proved to be effective in soothing tired eyes. However, if you suffer from long-term eye strain or if you notice that your sight is deteriorating, you may need to visit a doctor.
