1. Wearing a panty liner all day long
Specialists don’t recommend wearing panty liners all day long. They should be changed every 3-5 hours. Additionally, menstrual pads should be changed every 4 hours, and in case it’s heavy, it’s better to change them every 2 hours. For menstrual cups, the recommended wearing time is 4-6 hours.
2. Using Q-tips, bobby pins, or sharp pointed objects to clean your ears
Doctors recommend being more careful with the ears and stopping cleaning them with Q-tips. Don’t clean your ears with anything smaller than a washcloth on your finger. Studies also don’t recommend using ear candles because they’re not effective and can even cause injury.
3. Exfoliating the skin every day
New skin renews every 6 weeks and aggressive exfoliation actually leads to dry and irritated skin. Using a loofah in the shower is actually a mechanical exfoliation. Stick to using a loofah only twice a week.
4. Changing insoles less than once a year
It’s better to replace your insoles between 6-12 months with regular use. First of all, old insoles stop supporting your arch. Second, they start to smell bad because of bacteria. That’s why it’s not healthy to wear shoes without socks.
5. Not scrubbing your underarms
Experts say that your underarms need exfoliation too, especially if you shave. Use a loofah to apply a body scrub and then exfoliate gently. If your underarm skin is sensitive, use your facial cleanser.
Exfoliate them twice a week.
6. Using antibacterial soap on the face
Stronger doesn’t mean better. It’s more healthy to avoid any cleansers that make your skin dry and irritated. So avoid harsh soaps, including antibacterial ones. The antibiotic agent in such soaps strips the skin of its hydrating oils.
7. Using antibacterial soap for the hands every day
It’s better to skip using antibacterial soap every day for your hands. The manufacturers haven’t proven that the ingredients are safe for daily use and for a long period of time. Also, there is no proof that plain soap is less effective.
8. Using pressure while brushing your teeth
A study has shown that applying more than light pressure to your teeth or brushing longer than 2 minutes doesn’t make them cleaner. Moreover, it may increase the risk of oral health problems.
