From South Korea to Thailand, Asians have their own way of looking young and there are no short cuts to this. Their motivation and consistency play major roles in keeping themselves looking beautiful, even at 50 years old.

Here at Bright Side, we are no strangers to Asian beauty hacks. For this list, we chose the tips that we believe can help you age gracefully.

1. Use rice water

Rice water is a famous ingredient in many Japanese and Korean skincare products and a study has shown that rice water contains anti-aging properties and that it lightens your skin. You can either try skincare products with rice water in them or simply make it at home. You can wash your face with it before cleansing or use it as a mist to hydrate the skin.

Rice water can also be used to soften and shine your hair. It’s important to use clean rice water as you wouldn’t want impurities on your skin or hair.

2. Double cleanse your face

Double cleansing is a beloved technique in Korea and Japan because it ensures your face is clean from impurities and dirt that come after wearing makeup and sunscreen for the whole day. The first cleanser is usually an oil-based cleanser as oil cleansers help soothe the face while getting rid of unwanted and oily substances from your pores.

The second cleanser is your usual water-based cleanser which further removes any remaining residue. This makes it easier for other skincare products to penetrate your skin and softens the texture of your skin.

3. Use products with snail mucin

The use of snail mucin dates back to Ancient Greece and fast forward to modern days. Snail mucin is popularly used in Asian skincare products because of its complex mix of hyaluronic and glycolic acids which are good for the skin. The mucin also contains zinc that soothes skin irritation, the mix of these ingredients makes your skin glow and makes it more radiant.

4. Try a Korean body scrub

Korean body scrubs are different than conventional body scrubs because, instead of just using your bare hands and an exfoliating gel, it requires sandpaper-like texture mittens to remove excessive gunk and dead skin cells on your body.

You can search for Korean spas around where you live or purchase the special mittens online. It can be painful depending on your pain tolerance. But, it rejuvenates and makes your skin softer, along with using body lotions to moisturize your skin.

5. Drink lemongrass tea

Lemongrass is widely used in Asian cooking, particularly Thai cuisine. Its fragrant smell brings out aromatic flavors and it has a plethora of benefits. Lemongrass tea is a great detoxifier for your body and may promote healthy digestion. It might also help reduce menstrual cramps and bloating.

Eating healthily is essential in promoting radiant skin and lemongrass tea is a nourishing drink that you can add to your diet.

6. Apply castor oil on hair and skin

Pure castor oil helps lock moisture in dry and damaged hair, making the hair softer. It may also help with dandruff problems by massaging the oil on your scalp. Applying castor oil on your eyelashes may also promote longer lashes.

As a face oil, castor oil promotes moisturization and smooths the skin. It has antioxidants that help prevent wrinkles and fine lines from appearing faster if you use it earlier in adulthood.

7. Face massage with a jade roller/gua sha

Gua sha or jade rollers are surging in popularity these days around the world and they are worth all the hype. Originating from China, gua sha is traditionally used on the body to relieve muscle aches, chronic pain, and reduce inflammation after applying massage oil. However, by using a gentler force, it can be done on the face to improve blood circulation. By doing so, it reduces puffiness and releases muscle tension from the face.

8. Add sheet masks to your skin care routine

One of the best ways to take care of the skin is to use sheet masks and especially sheet masks with anti-aging ingredients that help with collagen. They’re practical to use and come with many benefits including skin brightening. They are perfect when it comes to reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
