OMG. A true designer!! The little sister must be proud ;)
A Guy Creates a Prom Dress for His Sister After Finding Out Their Parents Couldn’t Afford One
Sometimes, when it seems that our wishes are never going to come true, a miracle happens, and we get exactly what we want. And the character featured in our article was no exception. Her parents couldn’t afford to buy or even rent her a ball gown, leaving her no choice but to miss out on her prom when a miracle happened. Seeing his sister sad, the girl’s brother, Maverick Francisco Oyao, stepped in to help and decided to make the dress himself out of the materials he managed to buy. The story became incredibly popular on Facebook where Maverick shared the entire creative process.
We at Bright Side love stories with happy endings and this story is one of them — it even made some of our editorial team shed a tear.
It all started when the school announced the upcoming junior and senior prom. But one set of parents couldn’t afford to rent a ball gown for their daughter. But Maverick’s sister really wanted to attend the prom.
Maverick felt extremely sad about the whole thing, and that’s when he got the idea of creating a dress from the affordable materials he could find at the market. But since it was so hard to complete, he dropped it. However, seeing his sister so sad, Maverick decided to give it another try. He browsed different types of ball gowns on YouTube and Google and came across Michael Cinco’s spring and summer collection where he found the very dress he decided to create with his own hands.
“This was my first day. I was nervous and didn’t know where to start. I cut out 9 pieces of blue fabric, decorated them with a satin ribbon, and sewed them all together to make a skirt.”
“Since there was no space inside the house, we tried the skirt on outside. 50% of the work was done — my sister’s dress was almost finished.”
“I used flower details on the skirt.”
“I painted an ombré blue bodice to fit in with the color pallet of the lower part of the dress. I would come home from school and work on it. Sometimes I’d get extremely tired, but by imagining the outcome, I got the energy to continue the hard work.”
“What I love most about the whole dress is the sleeves.”
“And at last — a day I will never forget! I even cried with joy because all those sleepless nights paid off.”
“And here I am with my sister. I didn’t expect to finish it in time. I even doubted if I could do this or not because the concept was different from what I was already doing. I’m happy to see my sister happy.”
