Daniel Craig Had to STEAL to Survive and Now He Won’t Leave His Fortune to His Children
Today, Daniel Craig is the highest-paid James Bond actor. However, his journey to becoming as successful as he is today was surely not easy for him. In his early days as an actor, there were times when he was so hungry, he had to steal to have something to eat and sometimes even slept on park benches.
He left school at 16 to pursue his acting career.
Craig’s love for acting was born when he was only 6 years old and started performing in school plays. In high school, at age 14, he played roles in Romeo and Juliet, Oliver, and Cinderella.
At 16, he left Hilbre High School and moved to London to pursue an acting career.
A gay couple welcomed him into their home and gave him a roof over his head.
Looking back on those days, in a candid interview, Craig expressed his gratitude for their kindness. “Who would invite an 18-year-old into their house? I have no idea. It was a time I thought I was a man, but I wasn’t,” he recalled.
“They taught me how to behave, put a roof over my head, and believed in me. They led me into the adult world. I think about them a lot.”
Like many other actors out there who worked minimum wage jobs before becoming famous, Craig also struggled to make a living with the minor roles he managed to get, so he was toiling as a waiter and worked in restaurant kitchens.
After graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he started getting small TV parts, but he still didn’t have much money.
There were some days when he had nothing to eat, so he stole food from supermarkets, skipped paying rent, and sometimes even sleep on park benches. As it turns out, Dwayne Johnson was not the only one who used to steal food before becoming famous.
In an interview, he recalled the one time he stole a frozen duck with his then-girlfriend. “I played decoy, and she got it up [a frozen duck] her skirt, pretending she was pregnant,” he revealed. “By the way, I only stole from supermarkets that could afford it. I want to make that perfectly clear. But, you know, we didn’t have anything to eat, and we had to feed ourselves.”
Today, Craig has a net worth of $160 million.
Even though he didn’t like playing James Bond, he earned more than half of his current fortune thanks to the James Bond franchise. Craig first took on the role in 2006’s Casino Royale and continued to portray the famous British spy in 4 subsequent films. His performances in the films have been critically acclaimed and commercially successful, earning him numerous awards and making him one of the most recognizable faces in the entertainment industry.
Craig even plans to spend his fortune and not leave anything for his children to inherit. “I think inheritance is quite distasteful,” the actor said. “My philosophy is to get rid of it or give it away before you go,” he revealed.
Well, he won’t be the first or last famous person who doesn’t plan to leave money to their children. Here are 12 Celebrities Who Don’t Plan on Leaving Their Millions to Their Kids.
