How Katie Holmes Is “Protecting” Suri Now, After an Over-Exposed Childhood

Despite being the daughter of 2 Hollywood A-listers, we don’t see much of Suri Cruise in the spotlight now that she’s a teenager. Suri’s childhood, however, was very different, as she was constantly followed by paparazzi everywhere. This is why, after her parents’ divorce, her devoted mom Katie Holmes made a pact with herself to help her daughter have a normal and well-grounded upbringing.

She loves being Suri’s mom.

Holmes recently opened up about raising Suri and noted, ’’What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her.’’

This is one of the rare times that the Dawson’s Creek actress has brought up the subject of her daughter to the media. The loving mom noted, “I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent.”
She went on to add that her 16-year-old daughter is “an incredible person.”

Suri is talented like her mama.

And even though Holmes has chosen a private life for her only child, she is not against Suri expressing herself artistically. The 44-year-old shared, “I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her.”

As a matter of fact, the talented Suri has sung in the opening credits of not one but 2 of her mom’s movies: Rare Objects and Alone Together.

For Holmes, including her beloved daughter in her movie was a natural thing to do, and she believes that it ’’comes out of love.’’ The actress thinks that ’’you become family’’ with the crew when working on a project, and that it’s a ’’safe, beautiful, creative space’’ which she likes her daughter to be a part of.

The actress went on to note, "That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there because she’s my heart.’’

Their mother-daughter bond is unbreakable.

Suri was 5 years old when her parents broke up in 2011, and she and her mother have been inseparable ever since.

A few years ago, Holmes opened up about motherhood and noted that she aims to give Suri a ’’stable and innocent’’ childhood.

The devoted mother explained, “My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now.”

And from what it seems, Katie has succeeded in raising a well-grounded and humble daughter, just as she wished.
