In a recent revelation, Keira Knightley shared that she had to undergo “many years of therapy ” after her appearance in Pirates Of The Caribbean, as the experience was “traumatic” for her. Knightley, who was only 17 at the time, opened up about the challenges she faced during her early career as an actor.

At the age of 17, Keira Knightley gained worldwide recognition for her portrayal of Elizabeth Swann in the first Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, The Curse of the Black Pearl. However, despite the fame and recognition it brought her, Knightley acknowledged that the role had a traumatic effect on her. Now 38, Knightley has been candid about her challenges during her early career, stating the role’s negative impact.

Reflecting on her teenage years in the spotlight, Keira Knightley opened up about the challenges of dealing with fame at a young age. “I found it pretty horrific,” she shared in a recent interview. “I’m not an extrovert, so I found that level of scrutiny and that level of fame really hard. You’re in some ways still a child. It was traumatic, but it set up the rest of my career,” Knightley added.

Keira Knightley’s role in Pirates Of The Caribbean may have been challenging, but the actor has no regrets. As she shared in a recent interview, “I’m unbelievably lucky, and my career is in a place where I really enjoy it, and I have a level of fame that’s much less intense.”

Knightley acknowledged that dealing with the intense scrutiny that came with her early success was difficult, but she has since learned to manage it. “I can deal with it now, and that’s great,” she said. “But at the time, it was not so great, and it took many years of therapy to figure it out.”

Keira Knightley has opened up about her experience with mental health, revealing that at 22, she had a mental breakdown and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This was due to the sudden rise to fame she experienced after starring in hit movies such as Bend It Like Beckham, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Love Actually.

She reflected, “It’s amazing looking back at it from the outside — you’re like, ’Woah, that was hit after hit after hit!’ But, from the inside, all you’re hearing is the criticism, really.”

Her lack of training made her focus on her career’s negative aspects, making her feel worthless. “I literally felt like I was worthless,” she shared.

It is undeniable that the Pirates of the Caribbean movies achieved tremendous success. The franchise currently consists of five films and even has its own Walt Disney theme park attraction.
