Man’s Bizarre Trick to Save Money on Bananas Sparks Controversy

When it comes to saving money, people get pretty creative these days. From ingenious to outright absurd, budgeting hacks have taken on various forms. A young couple caused quite a stir on TikTok recently with an exceptionally thrifty tip. However, the hack caused not only giggles but also ignited a discussion, with some commenters even claiming this trick should be illegal.

The unconventional banana hack.

Mason and Mai, a frugal couple from Australia, are known for sharing their money-saving hacks on TikTok. Recently, Mason’s banana weighing method caught the attention of viewers, leading to a heated debate.

In the viral video, Mason demonstrates his cost-saving technique. He peels the bananas before weighing them at the self-service checkout, aiming to get a better deal. However, not everyone is convinced by his approach. While some viewers found Mason’s hack amusing and creative, others took a more critical stance.

It caused mixed reactions.

Some commenters even suggested this should be illegal, while others dismissed his efforts, saying it was too much effort for a measly 25 cents. One commenter jokingly pointed out that the weight of the plastic bag and the cost it added must be giving Mason ’’sleepless nights’’. One viewer called Mason’s action ’’penny-pinching’’, while another advised Mai to leave him and call the cops.

This is not their first unusual money-saving hack.

But their money-saving methods didn’t stop at bananas. The couple also shared a cheeky tip on how to get a free grocery bag at a supermarket. They suggest simply taking a bag meant for measuring fruits and veggies and using it for bagging groceries.

In another video, they took it a step further and shared an incident at a fast food chain where Mason grabbed a used cup from the car park to get a free refill, which fueled the debate and attracted even more criticism from viewers.

While caution is wise, being overly cautious can stifle our ability to enjoy little pleasures in life. And we all know that sometimes it’s hard to strike a good balance between overspending and thriftiness, so most of us try to be mindful of not swinging too far in either direction.
