Reese Witherspoon Reveals That the Secret to Her Youthful Look Is a 13-Minute Skincare Routine
Just like Elle Woods, the iconic Legally Blonde character, Reese Witherspoon is very much into skincare. She is known for her youthful appearance and glowing skin, and her simple yet effective beauty routine allows her to maintain a radiant appearance well into her 40s.
Her skincare routine is very strict.
Taking good care of your skin requires time and effort, and if you do everything right, you will be rewarded with a flawless complexion. The Your Place or Mine actress says she never skips her morning and night skincare routine.
“As far as skin care is concerned, just really making sure I’m cleaning and washing my face twice a day, particularly on heavy-makeup days, and moisturizing and adding all the serums, because they really do make a big difference. I have a whole process. Once I was like, ’Oh, that’s a solid 13 minutes,’” she shared.
She never forgets to take off her makeup.
Sleeping with makeup on can cause various skin problems, such as premature wrinkles and breakouts. Although Witherspoon leads a very active life, she makes sure to remove her makeup every night before she goes to bed. “Taking off your makeup every night, moisturizing your skin, and sunscreen! It really accumulates—what you do to your skin when you’re 18 shows up on your face when you’re 40,” she said.
She focuses on signs of aging.
Lots of things can cause dark spots, and being too long in the sun is one of them. The award-winning actress admits she struggles with skin hyperpigmentation and chooses the products that can make the dark spots less visible.
“My skin texture has changed a little bit—it’s a little bit drier. I definitely struggle with brown spots, I think from pregnancy, and so I’m looking for products that are really effective for dark-spot treatment. Especially in the summer, they get darker since they come up with heat,” she revealed.
She believes healthy lifestyle is key.
Getting enough sleep is vital for your health and overall wellbeing, and your skin will definitely benefit from it too. Over time, sleep deprivation might dehydrate your skin, making it drier and prone to wrinkles. Witherspoon believes sleeping and eating well are the secrets to her youthful complexion.
“Getting enough sleep, eating well. I eat well the majority of the week, so I think that has a lot to do with it. One day a week, I get my cheat day, where I eat as much cake and pizza as I want, but I try to be pretty healthy the rest of the time. Exercise is a big piece and drinking a lot of water,” she shared.
She tries to cut down on caffeine.
Although drinking too much coffee can cause your skin to become overly dry, quitting it completely might be a stress for your body. It’s better to gradually reduce your caffeine intake, and the Oscar winner admits it’s not easy for her to give up her coffee. “I try not to drink too much coffee, but sometimes, I drink too much coffee,” she revealed.
