Serena Williams Reveals the Gender of Her Second Baby With a Drone Display

Serena Williams is expecting her second baby with husband Alexis Ohanian and their recent gender reveal party is going viral. Instead of settling for something more traditional, the couple found out if they’re having a boy or a girl with an epic drone light show.

The drone display was a surprise from Williams’ husband.

In a YouTube video, the 41-year-old tennis player, who is set to become a mother of 2 soon, showed moments of her “baby shower/gender reveal” party, including the big moment itself. However, there was a plot twist even she didn’t expect.

Williams thought the reveal would be made by cutting a cake, but her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, had a different idea. “This cake is as basic of a gender reveal idea as I could come up with. Inside it’s yellow,” Ohanian began explaining the surprise in the video. “I’m doing this because I want to troll her and Olympia [their daughter] into thinking this is the reveal of Jelly Bean.”

After cutting the cake, Serena looked stunned at her husband, who proceeded to introduce the real reveal. “Serena, you and Olympia deserve the best. That was a little bit of a prank, you caught me,” he admitted. “But we are actually going to reveal Jelly Bean’s sex. The way we’re going to do it though is with a little style and some spectacular lights.”

With some music and a bit of suspense in the mix, a drone display then revealed Williams and Ohanian are having a girl! The moment was extra special for Williams, who had been “team pink” all along, as she had previously confessed: “I’m a little nervous because I don’t have any contingency plan if it turns out to be a boy.”

Serena tried to get rid of Ohanian when they first met.

Williams and Ohanian have been living a love story since they first met in 2015. However, they didn’t always get along! In an interview, the tennis player recalled meeting Ohanian at a hotel in Rome, Italy, while she was with a friend. “This guy shows up, and the whole place is empty. And this guy, like really tall, he comes with his computer and he plops down right next to us. And he opens his computer, and he starts typing,” she said. “And I’m just like, ’Why?’ I was so angry, I was like, ’Why is this guy here?’”

The two got talking and Williams jokingly tried to get rid of Ohanian but, although sparks didn’t fly immediately, the encounter ended with Williams asking for Ohanian’s phone number. From then on, Williams and Ohanian built their relationship and in September 2017, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., and got married shortly after in November 2017. In May 2023, they announced they were expecting their second child together.
