Sarah Michelle Gellar’s 13-Year-Old Daughter Wants to Act, but There’s a Good Reason Why the Actress Won’t Let Her

Children raised by parents who set firm rules and boundaries are more likely to be confident, achieve academic success, be better at problem-solving, and have greater social skills, studies say. And whether Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar is aware of this or not, she seems to practice a stricter parenting style.

The actress is protective over her children.

Gellar shares 2 kids with her husband and actor Freddie Prinze Jr. — 13-year-old Charlotte and 10-year-old Rocky. In a recent interview, the American actress opened up about their family life and touched on an important rule she’s set for her children, particularly Charlotte, who has shown interest in following in her parents’ footsteps in the entertainment industry.

“She can’t be in front of a camera until she graduates from high school,” Gellar revealed and continued to explain why. “She says to me, ’That’s unfair. You were a child actor.’ Yes, I was. But I was not the child of 2 famous parents.”

However, both Gellar and Prinze Jr. still want to take care of her passion for acting with their own return to the big screen. “From my vantage point, Sarah always had the hunger to go back to acting,” said the actor, who’s known for his role in I Know What You Did Last Summer. “Once our daughter started taking it seriously, both of us just instinctually wanted to show her the way we think it should be done,” he added.

Gellar and Prinze Jr.’s household has other strict rules.

The couple doesn’t allow their kids to have social media accounts. “Our rules are probably stricter than most,” Gellar admitted in a different interview. “Our kids don’t have social media. They’re allowed to look sometimes when it’s our phones. Sometimes, our kids will be like, ’You guys are the strictest household!’ But I say, ’Yes, but everyone still wants to come here!’”

Gellar went even more in-depth about how she believes children should be raised. “I believe kids need to know what their limitations are, and they actually thrive in that environment. We’re not mean, we’re not unnecessarily strict, but we have rules,” the actress explained. “And the same way I abide by my code of rules, I expect the same from our children.”
