7 Daily Habits That May Ruin Your Stomach
Drinking coffee on an empty stomach may increase the level of acid in the stomach and lead to bloating. Such researches are not new to us, but there are more habits that can ruin our digestive system and we’re even unaware of them.
We at Bright Side wish you a healthy and good day and found 7 more things that can help to keep your stomach strong.
1. Drinking orange juice on an empty stomach

If you got used to starting your morning with orange juice, probably it’s not the best choice for you. In general, eating citrus fruits on an empty stomach may increase the risk of acid production which leads to abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, and heartburn.
Moreover, fructose in fruits can slow down your digestive system if you have it before the meal. Drinking orange juice can “overwhelm the digestive system” and damage “good bacteria” in your gut.
2. Washing dishes with a sponge
Specialists recommend using a plastic or silicone brush because they tend to stay drier when they’re not used. Sponges stay wet for a long time and bacteria can grow.
Brushes are also easy to clean and it’s better to run them through the dishwasher once a week.
3. Leaving dirty dishes in a dishwasher overnight
Experts say that you need to run your dishwasher within a day after you load it. Bacteria can live on dirty dishes for up to four days and you need them to stop spreading.
Yes, bacteria can only exist up to a specific temperature and dishwashers kill them with warm water but if the device is old, it’s better to avoid any risks.
4. Replacing meals with salads
Vegetable salads are not so good as meal replacements although it has lots of vitamins. It has no protein and the lack of it may lead to regulatory disfunction.
Also, eating cold food all the time is unhealthy for your stomach. It takes more time to digest and may lead to problems. Moreover, if you care for your gut and want to avoid bloating, puffiness, and cramps, you need to eat more hot foods.
5. Eating curd and yoghurt at night
Curd and yogurt can actually worsen your digestion if you eat them at night. Indian specialists say that especially people with acidity and acid reflux should avoid it because the system is sluggish and sleep-ready and these products cause constipation.
6. Chewing a gum frequently
Researchers say that chewing gum often can create problems like jaw pain and diarrhea. One gum a day is enough for your body.
7. Eating different type of fruits at the same time
Ayurveda doesn’t recommend mixing different fruits but eating them separately because each fruit has its own sour. Mixing all those sours together can become dangerous for your stomach.
Different fruits just digest at different rates so if you suffer from bloating, it’s better to stop eating fruit salads.
Which point was the most surprising for you? How often do you replace a proper meal with cold food?
