The holidays are a great time to get involved with board games, as they are a really fun and enjoyable way to spend time with the family. According to research, playing board games can improve critical thinking and social skills and even help reduce stress. So why not incorporate a few board games into your holiday activities this year and make it a joyful experience for all?

4.6 stars out of 5

In this game, players try to collect as many matching decks of cards as possible while avoiding their opponents and throwing soft foam burritos at them. The player with the most matching decks at the end of the game is the winner. It’s a great game for family game nights, parties, and other social gatherings. With its combination of strategy, luck, and physical activity, ThrowThrow Burrito provides hours of entertainment and laughter for players of all ages.

Promising review: ThrowThrow Burrito is such an excellent card game. I would absolutely recommend this for anyone who loves playing spoons or dodgeball. I’ve played this game 6 times, and so far it’s been enjoyable. It’s also very simple to learn. 10/10 for awesomeness and a great workout. @Callum

2. Exploding Kittens party pack is a card game suitable for groups of 2–10 players. It is a fast-paced, strategic party game that people of all ages can enjoy. This fun game is perfect for parties and get-togethers with friends and family.

4.6 stars out of 5

Players are dealt a hand of cards and take turns trying to draw and play all their cards before the others get rid of them. One of the special features of this game is the Exploding Kittens, powerful cards that players can use to take their opponents out of the game. However, players can also use other cards in their hand to prevent them from being destroyed by the Exploding Kitten.

Promising review: This is a great family game! I was searching for a card game that was small and compact yet contained all the fun, engaging elements a classic party activity should have. I came across Exploding Kittens on Amazon, and I have to say, I didn’t hear about the hype, but I understand it now. This game is appropriate for all ages and maintains the classic competitive, strategic entity while also providing a round of laughs and jokes. The game really gets you thinking in order to plan your moves ahead and is full of laughter and surprises. The visuals of the game are stunning. The party pack came in a beautiful box (which I don’t want to explain too much as it will spoil the amazing contents) and was delivered with care. The animations and graphics on the game cards really stand out from their opponents, as I haven’t seen anything like this. The game is tricky to understand at first. Undertaking the rules and what cards to use and how each card works and playing methodically, Exploding Kittens emphasizes the “more is better” prophecy. It takes roughly 2 rounds to get a grasp of how the game works, but do watch the YouTube videos by Matthew Inman (I believe), who describes it all effortlessly. Definitely give it a shot, but don’t get blown up! @Tajrin Choudhury

Each category card is color-coded to indicate difficulty. The game is easy to learn and goes very quickly, so you can enjoy it throughout the evening and stop at any time.

Promising review: I bought this game for my newly formed team at work as an icebreaker. Wow, it’s funny to watch the scramble. Everyone had a good laugh, and it did what I needed it to. I would highly recommend it. @Jennifer Ramsay

4. OK Play is a board game for 2–4 players, ages 6 and up. It is a simple but strategic game in which players take turns placing colored tiles on a board with the goal of forming rows of 3 or more of their own colored tiles.

4.7 stars out of 5

The first player to form a row of 3 or more tiles wins the round. The game includes both beginner and advanced versions, so players can adjust the difficulty level to their liking. OK Play is a quick and easy-to-learn game that is great for families with young children thanks to its simple rules. 5. Pass the Pigs is a board game that is suitable for groups of 2–6 players, ages 6 and up. In this game, players take turns rolling 2 plastic pigs and score points for the position of the pigs after they land.

4.6 stars out of 5

Each pig has a different point value, and players can earn bonus points by rolling certain combinations of pigs. The first player to reach 100 points wins the game. Pass The Pigs is a great game for families and friends to play together, and its compact size makes it easy to take along.

Promising review: I purchased these for a FiftyFest camping party. They are great fun. The pigs are well-made and are a decent size. It definitely adds a new dimension to what is a very basic game. It comes with a little booklet with all the positions where you gain points, which I have to say is a little on the small side. I will be photocopying this for the actual day, so people can see their scores quickly. The booklet includes pages of scored pads, which is useful. You will want to photocopy these too before you run out. All in all, this is a great way to reintroduce “pass the pigs” to the children, including the big kids too. @choccy

7. The Blockbuster Game is a board game designed for 4–12 players, ages 12 and up. It is a fast-paced trivia game that tests players’ knowledge of popular movies and TV shows. This party game begins by challenging one player to a head-to-head duel. Call out as many movies as you can that fit a theme before time runs out.

4.5 stars out of 5

The Blockbuster Game is a great game for movie and TV lovers and a fun and exciting option for game nights with family or friends. The game includes a deck of cards with questions about a variety of movies and TV shows, as well as special cards that allow players to earn extra points or take shortcuts on the board.

Promising review: It’s easy to learn and pick up quickly. It has great humor for movie lovers. My 11-year-old finds some of the older movies tricky, or ones he’s never seen because they’re not age-appropriate. This is our favorite family game by far. First up is the head-to-head buzzer round, for example, name “films set on a plane.” You keep naming movies until the buzzer timer runs out, and whoever says the last film wins and gets to pick 6 cards from the movie pile. This contains movies of all types, 8 categories in total, chosen at random. Keep the 3 you think your partner can guess, and give the hard ones to the opposite team! 3 categories exist: one-word hints, quotes from movies, and acting it out. You place each card in the location you believe your partner will guess the movie from. It may appear to be a lot, but it isn’t. You’ll love the game like my family of 4 does. @DANI

4.7 stars out of 5

The game includes a deck of cards featuring special abilities that can be used to help players collect discs or block their opponents, adding an element of strategy to the game. A roll of the dice determines the combination of color and shape, so keep your fast reaction by your side!

Promising review: My 4-year-old absolutely loves it and plays it with grandma and other grownups. It is good for observation skills, dexterity, color and shape recognition, and it brings out the competitive nature in everyone. We love it so much that we have bought many more to gift to family and friends. @salsa
