8 Simple Things That Can Make Your Skin Happy
Skin is the body’s largest organ made up of 19 million skin cells, 650 sweat glands, 20 blood vessels, and 1,000 nerve endings. It does a big job for us, so it is important to take really good care of it. Learning just a few useful skincare tricks can eventually lead to that glowing and happier-looking skin every woman strives to have.
We at Bright Side love beauty routines, so we’ve created a list of 8 simple yet effective skincare hacks you can start practicing as of today.
1. Wash your face with rice water.
Rice water is the water left over after you cook the rice. In the skincare industry, it is known for its beneficial effects on the skin. Rice water contains antioxidants and can help in reducing skin aging and skin irritation. If you have rice in your kitchen, let it soak for about 10-15 minutes, swirl it around, and then use that milky water to wash your face in the morning.
2. Differentiate your morning and evening routine.
The morning and evening skincare routines have some equal steps, but they shouldn’t be the same. In the morning, the focus is on protecting the skin from sun damage, while in the evening, it is imperative to cleanse and nurture.
- In the morning, wash your face with (rice) water. After that, use a toner and a hydrating face serum. Now, moisturize your skin and put on an eye cream. As the final step, use a lot of SPF.
- In the evening double-cleanse your face to remove makeup, oil, and other impurities. After double-cleansing, use a toner and an eye cream. Finally, treat your skin with a face serum based on retinol and apply a moisturizer or night cream.
3. Try multi-masking
Multi-masking is an effective way of applying different masks to specific skin areas. It is a great opportunity to address different skin imperfections at the same time. For example, for a greasy T-zone, the best solution is an oily skin mask, while for dry cheeks, it’s best to use a hydrating one.
4. Measure out SPF using your fingers.
It’s common to think that sunscreen is only needed during warm summer days, but that’s incorrect. No one can stress the importance of using sunscreen every day enough, even during the winter. SPF creams protect the skin from ultraviolet (UV) rays and slow the aging process. To ensure the right amount, measure out SPF cream using your fingers.
5. Boost your skin with a facial mist
Facial mist is used between your skincare steps, over and under makeup. There are various types of face mists, including mattifying, moisturizing, pollution-protecting mists, and mists with SPF protection. Pick the one that fits the needs of your skin and always bring it with you — it is a great way to boost your skin and make it happier during the day.
6. Keep your bath towels in the bedroom.
It may sound strange, but keeping bath towels in the bathroom is a bad habit. “The bathroom is definitely a site for contamination,” says environmental microbiologist Kelly Reynolds. A better option is to keep your bathroom towels in the bedroom, away from humidity, bacteria, and germs.
7. Always sleep on your back.
If you are waking up with puffy eyes it is time to change your sleeping habits. Our sleeping positions can affect the skin and cause acne, lines, and wrinkles. Sleeping on the back prevents the face from rubbing up against the pillow meaning happy and rested skin, here we come.
8. Follow the four pillars of wellness
Besides following all the skincare tips and tricks, it is equally important to continuously follow the four main pillars of feeling good in your own skin: good nutrition, exercising, relaxation and sleep.
