15 Things Proving That Even Fashion Was Insane in the Reckless 2000s

When we think about the trends of the 2000s, we only say, “Oh, how could we?” The fashion trends of the time were really weird. But many of us still remember that time with warmth.

We at Bright Side had a rush of nostalgic feelings remembering the things people adored before, but now they can’t believe they liked them.

1. Revealing your underwear

High-rise g-strings became very popular thanks to Gucci, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Christian Dior. They made underwear collections that needed to be shown. And many celebrities supported these companies — like Christina Aguilera and Paris Hilton, among others.

2. Harem pants

It is amazing, but in the 2000s, these pants were popular among both girls and guys. They were worn with T-shirts, leather jackets, and even shoes with high heels.

3. Bellybutton piercings

In the ’90s, these piercings were insanely popular thanks to top models Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell. And in the 2000s, stars like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears supported the trend.

This kind of piercing was widely popular because it was easy to hide under clothing. Many teenagers even got it without their parents knowing.

4. Boots with fur on the outside

Every trendy girl had these boots in her wardrobe. They wore them with jeans, skirts, dresses, and even with shorts.

5. Lower back tattoos

Tattoos on the lower back were one of the most popular ways to highlight individuality, even though the attitude toward tattoos, in general, was not very positive at the time. The most popular themes were words, ornaments, butterflies, flowers, and stars.

6. Golden film on cars

This kind of car upgrade thrilled the minds of many car drivers. The bravest ones would put a golden film on their cars to show their status and originality.

7. Skirts or dresses on top of pants

The unusual combination of pants and skirts was really trendy, especially among celebrities. They proudly walked around like this on the red carpet, demonstrating their outstanding taste in clothes.

8. Extremely low-rise jeans

This is probably one of the biggest symbols of the time. Low-rise jeans were trendy thanks to designer Alexander McQueen. He said, “I wanted to elongate the body, not just show the bum. To me, that part of the body—not so much the buttocks, but the bottom of the spine—that’s the most erotic part of anyone’s body, man or woman.”

9. Animal-shaped hats

These hats were pretty popular in the 2000s, especially those with wolf and bear ears. The unusual design not only improved the mood of the person wearing it, but of everyone around them too.

10. Fur covers on seats and steering wheels in cars

Car owners eagerly decorated their cars with these accessories. The colors of the covers could be very different and range from black to pink.

11. Velvet scrunchies

These scrunchies were the most important accessory of the 1990s and 2000s. Everyone wore them: from children to adults.

But after episode 4, season 6, of Sex and the City, the reputation of the velvet scrunchie took a hit after Carrie Bradshaw criticized them.

12. Parties in limos

Celebrating a birthday, graduating college, or a bachelor party in a limo was really cool. The companies that owned these cars for rent earned a lot of money at the time, because the demand was insane. Some people still do this, but not as often as in the 2000s.

13. Very thin eyebrows

At the beginning of the 2000s, extremely thin eyebrows were trendy. Stylish girls had to use tweezers to conform to beauty standards. Many girls felt relieved when natural-looking eyebrows finally became trendy.

14. Bronze rouge

In the beginning of the 2000s, it was trendy to highlight the cheekbones and the cheeks. A bronze and brick blush color was very popular. People believed the face was more expressive this way. Also, if you had cheeks like this and pale skin, this was the best combination.

15. Eyebrow piercing

In the ’90s, piercing your eyebrow was a symbol of different subcultures. In the 2000s, people outside these subcultures started to get eyebrow piercings. People just wanted to express themselves and make their style a bit more edgy.

well, that was fashionable back then. I'd say 2000s were years of rebellion, weird music and the spreading population of the Internet. Those crazy times were like "illustrated" in the fashion
but yeah, some of the outfits look even creepy. Like those jeans with a skirt omg ?
