A romantic story in a film or a TV series should be sweet but not too cheesy. And if it also happens to be surrounded by an interesting plot, it has a much better chance of winning people over. But when we remember our favorite films, we understand that their success was largely due to the actors. Some of the couples displayed such amazing chemistry on-screen that even years and decades later, we still remember them with a smile.

We at Bright Side are sure that even the most unromantic people out there were amused by the stories of these on-screen couples. That’s we decided to find out what these actors look like today.

Harry and Sally (When Harry Met Sally..., 1989)

The movie, When Harry Met Sally..., has been named one of the best romantic films many times. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan did a great job at portraying good friends that had feelings for each other but resisted them. Ryan hasn’t appeared on the big screen for several years, but Crystal still continues to work.

Lula and Sailor (Wild at Heart, 1990)

The road-movie, Wild at Heart, is not only remembered for its cool love story, but also because of Elvis Presley’s songs that were sung by Nicolas Cage. Laura Dern was his partner in the film and Cage met her again on stage at the Film Independent Spirit Awards last year. The actors are still very popular.

Kimberly and Michael (My Best Friend’s Wedding, 1997)

During the entire film, Julia Roberts’ character tried to sabotage a really cute couple’s wedding. Unfortunately for fans, Cameron Diaz has stopped her movie career and now writes books about health. Dermot Mulroney is still a popular movie actor.

Cole and Phoebe (Charmed, 1998-2006)

Even though Cole was supposed to appear on the show just a few times, the chemistry between him and Phoebe was so obvious that the creators decided to give Cole a bigger role. Cole and Phoebe were fan-favorites for many viewers. Actors Julian McMahon and Alyssa Milano are still extremely popular.

Anna and William (Notting Hill, 1999)

The story of Notting Hill is a dream for any fan because the story of a famous actress falling in love with a normal guy is fascinating. The actors that portrayed the main characters, Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, are still popular today. Recently, Grant appeared in Death to 2020 where he looked much older thanks to makeup.

Annette and Sebastian (Cruel Intentions, 1999)

It was really hard not to believe in the love between the characters from Cruel Intentions, portrayed by Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe. The thing is, the actors were really in love with each other. They were married for about 8 years. Unfortunately, Phillippe is not as successful as his ex-wife, but it doesn’t mean he’s any less talented. He’s recently appeared on Big Sky.

Zack and Laney (She’s All That, 1999)

The romantic comedy, She’s All That, was so successful that a remake was announced not too long ago. In the film, a guy makes a bet that he can turn an unattractive girl into the school’s prom queen. He finds a girl and ends up falling in love with her. The main roles were portrayed by Rachael Leigh Cook (who’s set to be in the remake) and Freddie Prinze Jr. He sometimes appears on various TV shows, but his true passion is cooking.

Clark and Lana (Smallville, 2001-2011)

Fans of Smallville liked what Clark Kent did with his superpowers almost as much as they enjoyed watching the romantic relationship between him and Lana. Over the course of the entire show, we watched their relationship grow from friendship to love. Actors Tom Welling and Kristin Kreuk still act, but they don’t have big roles like they did on this hit show.

Ryan and Marissa (The O.C., 2003-2007)

When The O.C. had just been released, it played a big role in how young people appeared on many similar shows. One of the most interesting plotlines was the relationship between the characters played by Ben McKenzie and Mischa Barton. After the series ended, the actors didn’t appear in any more successful projects, but they’re still popular today.

Landon and Jamie (A Walk to Remember, 2002)

Only those with cold hearts failed to shed a tear as they watched A Walk to Remember. It’s a story of 2 opposites who fall in love with each other. The actors that portrayed the main parts are also singers today. Shane West sings in the rock band, Twilight Creeps, and Mandy Moore is a pop singer.

Tyler and Nora (Step Up, 2006)

When Step Up was first released, it ranked second in the North American box office. And that wasn’t all that surprising — the beautiful love story accented with all the cool dancing won people over. Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum, the actors who portrayed the main characters, used their real feelings to bring their character to life, as they were married for more than 10 years. A short time ago, Dewan had a baby and is now engaged to a different actor. And Tatum has obviously decided to concentrate on his career at the moment.

Gerry and Holly (P.S. I Love You, 2007)

In P.S. I Love You, a widow, portrayed by Hilary Swank, receives letters from her husband from beyond the grave, as he had prepared the letters in advance. They let her relive memories from when her husband, who was portrayed by Gerard Butler, was still alive. Even though the story seems dark, it really isn’t — and that’s because of the talented actors involved. Butler and Swank are still extremely popular actors today.
