1. 1984

In 1984, Keanu Reeves was a correspondent for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. That same year, he made his acting debut in Hangin’. It was just a start and luck was on his side.

Keanu had some roles in the theatre, but besides those, he also appeared in a Coca-Cola commercial in 1985. Finally, he made his first motion picture in Peter Markle’s Youngblood (1986). Reeves was described by critics as “affecting and sympathetic.”

Despite his success, his personal life wasn’t going well. At the end of 1999, Reeves’s girlfriend, Jennifer Syme, gave birth to their 8-month-old stillborn baby. Soon afterward the couple broke up.

On April 2, 2001, Reeves ex-girlfriend was killed in a car accident. This incident had an influence on his life and philosophy.

Keanu continued to accept roles in a different range of genres and one of them was the romantic comedy, Sweet November. It was his second collaboration with Charlize Theron.

By 2002, Reeves’s music career had come to an end and his rock group Dogstar disbanded. After being absent from the screen in 2002, Reeves will return to The Matrix sequels in 2003.

In 2005, Reeves played another huge role in Constantine. The film grossed $230 million worldwide but the reviews were mixed.

2008 wasn’t successful for Reeves and after a collaboration with director David Ayer on the crime thriller Street Kings, the reviews were heartbreaking: “Reeves is fundamentally blank and uninteresting.”

That year was significant for the actor. He met Alexandra Grant at a dinner party. After that, they went on to collaborate on 2 books. Reeves continued to keep his life very private and they didn’t appear in public together until November 2019.

11. 2010

In 2010, Reeves became an internet meme. He was noticed sitting alone on a park bench with a sad expression. An unofficial holiday was created after Keanu’s fans declared June 15 to be “Cheer-up Keanu Day.”

12. 2012

In 2011, Reeves’s only work was on an adult picture book Ode to Happiness together with Alexandra Grant. But after this period in 2012, he appeared in a documentary called Side by Side. The drama Generation Um... became another project where he had a role. Unfortunately, it was critically panned.

In 2013 Reeves played Kai in 47 Ronin. The film premiere was in Japan but failed. The reviews were not positive and made Universal Pictures reduce advertising for the film in other countries.

2014 became an important year in Reeves’s life and after many failures, his career finally was reborn. He acted in John Wick. Critics marked it as his return to the action genre.

In 2019, Keanu Reeves appeared in public holding hands with his friend, artist Alexandra Grant who is the same age as him. Fans were happy that Reeves could potentially be in a relationship with her and no longer be single.
