The Rock Used to Steal Food When He Was a Kid and Has Since Found a Great Way to Redeem Himself

One of the most well-known men in Hollywood today is Dwayne Johnson, who earned his nickname “The Rock” from his success in professional wrestling. But when he was 14 and hungry, he wasn’t himself. He recently shared his story about stealing snacks from a store and what he decided to do years later.

Nothing came easy for him in his younger years.

Years ago, Dwayne Johnson admitted that he didn’t always have it easy in his childhood in a heartfelt Instagram post. He posted a picture of his “big, extended, blended, slightly crazy, loving, grateful ohana” that was lovely and smiling, but his caption indicated a deeper meaning behind the Thanksgiving feast.

“My mom pointed out earlier in the day, there was a time back in ’87 when we couldn’t even afford Thanksgiving dinner and were praying someone would invite us over [to] their house to eat. We were in a tough spot back then, but we got [through] it,” Johnson wrote in his post.

He used to steal Snickers candy from a local store.

The Rock admitted in a recent Instagram post that he would steal a Snickers bar from the convenience store every day for about a year when he was in his teens and broke. “When I was 14 years old, every day I used to stop here at this 7-Eleven and steal a king-sized Snickers bar because I couldn’t afford to buy one,” he explained, adding that the caramelly nougat and peanut chocolate bar served as his pre-workout snack. “I did that for almost a year, every day.”

But he decided to unburden himself.

Johnson visited a 7-Eleven in Hawaii and bought every Snickers bar on the shelves. “I finally exorcised this chocolate demon that’s been gnawing at me for decades,” he wrote in the post’s caption. “We were evicted from Hawaii in ’87, and after all these years — I finally got back home to right this wrong. The same clerk was there every day and always just turned her head and never busted me.”

He did more than just buy all the Snickers bars.

The well-known actor didn’t end his trip with a Snickers raid alone. The actor also paid for all the customers’ purchases and provided tips to the store’s cashiers. His in-store purchase cost him $298 in total. He added that doing this was the least he could do, considering that he used to steal from here.

“We can’t change the past and some of the dumb stuff we may have done, but every once in a while we can add a little redeeming grace note to that situation — and maybe put a big smile on some strangers’ faces,” he added.

He had to “right the wrong.”

Johnson was captured taking selfies outside the convenience shop and inside the store while having piles of Snickers bars rang up. Johnson also left all of the Snickers he had bought at the counter for hungry customers, considering the 5-finger discount. “I’m gonna leave these here,” he told the clerks before leaving the register. “If somebody looks like they’re stealing Snickers, give them these, so they don’t steal them.”
