We learn the most valuable lessons in our lives from our parents, whether we’re stars, singers, actors, or everyday people. In their eyes, we will always be the small kids they want to nurture with love and useful advice.
That being said, Bright Side has gathered the best advice that celebrities got from their parents as the greatest gifts they ever received throughout their lives.
1. Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman admired his dad with all his heart. He shared some words of wisdom his father taught him on Instagram. “My father taught me to always keep my promises... Even if it turns out that there’s a better option or something that will benefit me more. Be true to your word,” the actor posted, along with a picture of him with his dad.
2. Matt Smith
Matt Smith, best known for his role in the BBC series, Doctor Who, and Netflix’s The Crown, adored his dad. He shared one of the most valuable pieces of advice from his dad. “My dad said to me very early on, ’It’s not the disappointments, son. It’s how you get over them,’” he quoted.
3. Nicole Kidman
The actress had a special connection with her parents. When she was excited about her pregnancy: “Yes, this is it — I’m retiring,” she said. To which her mom actually said, “Don’t do that. Just keep a little toe in the water.”
4. Brad Pitt
In his high school days, he used to play tennis on the court. While playing a tournament at McEnroa’s best, he threw his racket and said that words are not acceptable. Just then, his father entered the court asking him, “Are you enjoying it?” When he denied it, his dad simply said, “Then don’t.” He always believed in finding something he loved from this experience.
5. Khloé Kardashian
Khloé Kardashian, who starred in the famous reality show, Keeping Up With Kardashians, shared the best piece of advice she got from her parents. She wrote on her website: “There’s absolutely no way I could pick just one parenting technique I’ve learned from my mom. She’s just so incredible and has taught me so much. But, the one thing I would take from how my dad was with us is unconditional love. It’s the entire point of family.”
6. Peyton List
Peyton List, the star of Disney’s Jessie, shared an inspirational lesson from her mom. “She’s always taught me to be super-honest and to always express myself and stand up for myself in difficult situations. When I was younger, I have many regrets about not fighting back — and just letting things slide and not really having a voice,” she said.
7. Chris Hemsworth
Ahead of a Mother’s Day celebration, the handsome Thor actor shared how his mom guided him. “’If you’re not enjoying it, do something else.’ That was what she said to me when I came across to the States and I was really nervous about coming over. What if I don’t get work? She goes, ’Just have fun. You love acting, right? Good, go and act. Go and have fun and if it doesn’t work out, you can come back home,’” he said.
8. Meghan Trainor
The singer revealed the best life lesson she got from her mom. She quoted, “My mama always reminds me to be happy and to take a step back and look at everything. Because with this crazy life, you can easily get overwhelmed.”
9. Jim Parsons
Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper in the CBS sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, once said that he learned a lesson from his mom by the fact that, “She’d just look in the mirror and say, ’Well, I did the best I could do today.’”
10. Chris Evans
The Caption America actor shared an incident from when he was in third or fourth grade. He recalls that some children were making fun of somebody else that affected him. Upon sharing this with his mom, he said she told him, “Why my heart matters...and make sure your heart stays true, and even when she walked out of the room, I remember knowing — at 10 — this matters.”
11. Kate Hudson
The Golden Globe-winning American actress once said that she was happy that her mom never pressurized her and her siblings. In Hudson’s own words: “She just wanted us to be doing the things that made us happy, as long as we were working hard, but we never had to live up to something.”

Saldana recalls a mantra her mother used with her when she was nervous about making an impression on someone new. “And for some reason, it was always to remind me what I have to feel and think about others matters just as much as what they have to feel and think of me,” she added.

On the Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Tom Holland revealed, “No one gives me notes like my mom does.” She will ask him, “Really, you’re going to do it like that?” He further added, “I owe everything to my lovely mom. You know, She did everything for me growing up when I was going for auditions. And she was like, ’You know, you gotta stretch if you want to be in Billy Elliot.’”
