A good deed can lift your mood for a day or even change your whole life. The heroes of this article found themselves in very different life situations, but they all now believe in goodness a little more.

  • I got sick and have been in hospital for almost a week. My husband visits me every day and cooks my favorite dishes. But I feel very sorry for my wardmate. Her husband came only once, brought nothing, and asked for money. I once found out in a conversation what she likes, and then I asked my husband to get it. So, next time he brought food not only for me, but also for her. He brought lasagna and she ate it almost with tears in her eyes. I'll be discharged soon, but I've written down a few more of her favorite dishes, and I'll be visiting. © Mamdarinka / VK
  • My husband and I were riding a bus. A girl enters: duck lips, revealing outfit. My husband immediately is like, "Oh, hello!" Helps her with her bags, all too courteous. She's smiling widely. I can't stand it and nervously whisper, "Who is she?" And then he says, "You were smiling at her, I thought she was someone you knew!"
  • A friend agreed to meet a guy from a dating site to eat for free. In the end, she burst into tears at dinner and confessed that she only had money for a ticket home. And she lives in the middle of nowhere. So this guy offered to live with him, but she had to find a job. She found a job quickly, but they didn't want to part. A strong family, children, happy. She says if she wasn't hungry and desperate, she would have never gone on that date. © Overheard / Ideer
  • A few years ago I found myself in a difficult situation. I quit my toxic job out of impulse and couldn't find a new job. I couldn't pay my rent. No friends either. I remember standing in a shop crying because I had no money. A girl came up to me and asked me what was wrong. I burst into tears and told her everything. She calmed me down and bought a whole bag of groceries. She lent me money to pay my monthly rate. Helped me get a job. It wasn't my dream job, but it wasn't that bad. She came to visit, cheered me up, gave me nice little things, and complimented me. Now I have a good job and got a mortgage. Previously I wouldn't even believe it was possible! I'm friends with that girl now. And I just can't believe that a stranger helped me out for nothing. Of course, I paid her back the money for the rent, and I gave her gifts and helped her. But still, the most important thing is how she helped me in the worst moment of my life. I used to be a skeptic, but now I believe in good. © Overheard / Ideer
  • I went to the grocery shop. A cheerful song was playing in my earphones, and then I heard someone calling me. I turn round: there's an old lady with huge bags. I think she's going to ask me to carry the bags. But she doesn't. I pull out my earphones and hear her saying, "I don't have money for bread." I refuse, but I notice tears in her eyes. Nodding sadly, she says, "All right then, I'll make do." I've never felt so lousy in my life. After walking a few yards, I turned around and ran back to her, handing her the money I wanted to spend on food for myself. A lot of people might say that it's still unclear what she'll spend it on, but somehow I'm sure she'll buy herself something to eat. I went to the shop because I wanted to buy some goodies, even though the fridge was full, and she was collecting cans to buy some bread. © Overheard / Ideer
  • It just so happened that I, a 20-year-old girl, had to travel by train with my younger sister. I forgot to take a formula bottle, and my 1-year-old sister cried loudly so the entire carriage could hear her. She didn't know how to drink from a glass yet and couldn't fall asleep without a bottle. At the night stop, a guy took a taxi, went to a 24-hour pharmacy, and brought us a bottle. He didn't take any money. © Overheard / Ideer
  • A couple of years ago I forgot I put my wallet on the bumper of my car and drove off into a pretty intense rainstorm. Unbeknownst to me, my wallet fell and my credit cards and license were scattered all over the street. A lady following saw stopped her car and collected all of it in the freezing rain. She used my license to find me on Facebook so she could message me and return the wallet and cards. She was such a blessing! © Sufficient_Wafer6322 / Reddit
  • My brother is not very romantic. So he asked me to text his girlfriend for him to say good morning, good night, etc. beautifully. But still, the girl dumped him. And in the end, she said, "You're only good at texting. And when we meet, you're dry and insensitive!" Well, I just tried to help my brother! © Overheard / Ideer
  • I was in a supermarket. A woman was choosing groceries and singing a song from an old children's cartoon. I liked it so much that I decided to buy her a chocolate bar. I handed it to her and said, "This is for you. Thank you for cheering me up!" And she said, "Oh, I didn't realize I was singing out loud!"
  • Nearly 15 years ago, we were going through a serious financial rough patch. It was so bad that I was barely eating, just to make sure we'd have money for other necessities. One day, I had to get some blood work done, and I had to get it done at a hospital a few cities away. It was a hot summer day, and I had to get there by bus in my wheelchair. As you can probably imagine, I was exhausted by the time I got there. When I went to check in at the lab, the receptionist looked at my paperwork and asked if I had fasted for at least 12 hours. For some reason, rather than saying, "Yes," I said that I wasn't sure when I last ate, but that it had certainly been more than that. After getting my blood drawn, I started to leave the lab. Suddenly, I heard someone calling out from behind me. I turned around, and a woman came up to me. She handed me something and said, "I promise, things will get better." I looked down at what she'd handed me, and it was a $20 bill. I thanked her and left the lab. On the way home, I got my first good meal in a while, and I had enough money left over to get some necessities that had been put off. © taniamorse85 / Reddit
  • A few days ago I got into a bus, and it turned out that you can't pay for the ticket with a card, but you can transfer money. I stand near the driver, open the bank application, and then 2 old ladies offer me to buy the ticket. I don't look poor, I'm not a minor. They just wanted to pay for me. And I felt so warm. Even now I smile remembering them. © Overheard / Ideer
  • Our children's group has the nicest teacher. She is great at motivating children and making them proud of themselves and their achievements. She keeps all their drawings, and when they get much better at drawing she shows their old drawings to them, saying, "Look how good you are. You used to do it like this, but now you're doing much better. See what you've achieved?" Thanks to her, the whole group knows that you can learn anything, the main thing is patience and constant practice. © Mamdarinka / VK
  • Once a 68-year-old lady came to me for an interview. She said that she was ready to work for any money if the work was not very hard. I asked her if she had any friends. So for the single position of a salesperson, I hired 3 old ladies. They work a 12-hour shift, 4 hours each. On the downside: they are slow, of course, and often sick. On the plus side: they replace each other, and they don't steal at all. The sales have increased, they know all customers by sight. © Overheard / Ideer
  • I've never been good at walking in high heels: I always trip or twist my ankle. Today I went to work in heels and decided to go to the shop. It's raining outside, and I'm walking up the tiled steps, twist my foot, slip, and start falling backwards. Then someone catches me and helps me to my feet. When I came to my senses, I realized it was my ex. Leaving, he said, "You still can't walk in heels, but you are beautiful anyway." © Caramel / VK
  • I work in a pet shop. Someone left a box with 5 tiny kittens at our entrance. I sit there and don't know what to do. But a kind woman walked in, immediately determined that if their eyes were open, they could already eat baby pate. She taught me how to feed them from a syringe and massage their bellies. She brought warm blankets. We hung a poster and in 2 days we had all of them adopted! © Marisha Koltunova / ADME
  • I was walking across the bridge on a rainy evening and saw a young woman. She looked depressed and confused. Something in her eyes made me stop and come closer. We started talking, and it turned out that she was going through a difficult time. I suggested we go to a nearby cafe. We were drinking hot tea and talking about everything in the world. She thanked me and said that this meeting changed a lot. At that moment I realized that sometimes even a small gesture of attention can be important for someone's life. © Ward 6 / VK
  • I have an amazing mother-in-law. After my divorce, when I hit the financial rock bottom, she added half the amount so that I could buy an apartment. She gave it not to me, of course, but to her grandson. She never forced any advice or reproaches on me. Never defended her son. She looked at the events objectively. I wish I had her brains. My husband and I got back together, and things got better. But I am very grateful for her support. © Overheard / Ideer
