The chance of getting pregnant at 40 is 44%, and this only decreases as we get older, but the odds are better if the pregnancy is done by in vitro fertilization, or IVF. This was the case with Chalise Smith and her daughter, Kaitlyn Muñoz, who shared on her social media the cute but unusual story of how Chalise, at 50 years old, became her surrogate.

We at Bright Side truly believe that a mom’s love can achieve anything, and we want to share this touching mother-daughter love story with you.

Kaitlyn always dreamed of having a big family.

“Growing up the third of 8 kids, I had always dreamed of having a big family of my own,” said Kaitlyn on her social media account, who, just like her mom, wanted to have kids. So when Kaitlyn and her husband got married, they immediately started trying to get pregnant and form a family.

Kaitlyn’s first pregnancy had to be through in vitro fertilization.

After some years of trying to get pregnant and not succeeding, Kaitlyn had to undergo testing, and that’s how they found out she had a severe case of endometriosis. For some people with that condition, it can be hard to get pregnant, as endometriosis can obstruct the fallopian tubes.

Kaitlyn underwent surgery to treat her condition, and 2 months later, she started her in vitro fertilization journey. At the end of the process, they ended with 4 viable embryos, so they tried 2 of those embryos on her. One worked, and she became pregnant with her son, Callahan.

Her pregnancy went well until she was 30 weeks pregnant, and she had to be admitted to the hospital. The doctors told Kaitlyn that she had Sjogren’s Syndrome, which meant her immune system was attacking her kidneys. In 2021, she received some devastating news: her kidneys would not be able to endure another pregnancy, but Kaitlyn really wanted to continue her family, as she wanted another baby.

Kaitlyn’s mom had the brilliant idea of being a surrogate.

After Chalise heard that her daughter wasn’t going to be able to have another child, she thought about being her surrogate. “Never did I think I would experience something like this or have a baby at 50,” explained Chalise on her social media page.

She took some time to really think things through and see if everyone, including her husband, was on board with the idea. After they pondered about it and everyone agreed, Chalise began the IVF process with the remaining 2 embryos.

After a couple of weeks, they received great news.

2 weeks after the in vitro process, they received the best news — one of the embryos took, so Chalise was pregnant at 50 years old. “My mom has given me, Miguel, and Callahan the most significant gift,” Kaitlyn gushed.

The family decided to share their amazing story with the world and Kaitlyn dedicated a sweet social media post to her mom by saying “My mom did a lot of things for me when I was a little girl that I couldn’t do for myself. Here I am 24 years later and again she’s doing something that I can’t do for myself, she is carrying my child.”

A beautiful baby girl was born.

To document the process and to preserve the memories, the family asked elee.photo and makennatoolson to take professional pictures of their special moments.

It all went well during delivery and Chalise gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl named Alayna Kait-Chalise Muñoz. “Grateful for my mom and her selflessness in this journey,” were Kaitlyn’s words.
Now the Muñoz family has one more member, and they are a cute family of 4.

In an interview, Kaitlyn said that this would be quite the story to tell her daughter when she grows up and how crazy the experience is that she grew in the same uterus as she did.

Do you think that the love between a mother and daughter knows no limits? Would you do something incredible like this for your children? Tell us in the comments what your thoughts are on this cute story.
