A Mom Is Accused of Looking for Attention by Breastfeeding in Public, and Her Reaction Is the Best

Breastfeeding is a natural act that women shouldn’t be ashamed of, and a young mom is fighting for her right to publicly nurse without having to cover up. The 18-year-old got totally candid about the challenges she has to face whenever she has to feed her 2-year-old, and we find her view very refreshing.

She gets unwanted stares from strangers.

Shania O’Neill doesn’t think twice about breastfeeding her daughter publicly. She noted, ’’It could be anywhere; the tram, bus, a restaurant, I could be pushing the [stroller] in a shop and I’ll feed her wherever we are.’’

However, the young woman admitted that she gets a lot of unwanted attention from strangers, and she finds it to be quite annoying. Shania said, ’’Boobs are for feeding babies. It’s a natural thing.’’

The Gen Z mother further explained her point, noting, ’’I don’t get why people think it’s me looking for attention. I am just doing something so natural that was seen as normal 60 years ago.’’

She insists on the importance of breastfeeding.

O’Neill got pregnant with Isabella when she was just 16, and she never could’ve imagined that she would one day become a social media advocate for public breastfeeding.

In fact, she admits that she ’’never planned on breastfeeding.’’ But once O’Neill did it, she explained, ’’It completely changed me. It’s created such an amazing bond.’’

No one can stop this young mom.

The mother of one revealed that at the beginning, she used to cover up, but she soon stopped because she ’’felt uneasy.’’ She added, "It was hard with a blanket because I had to keep checking every 2 seconds underneath it. So now I don’t use one at all, and it’s much easier.’’

Despite all the negative comments she gets, O’Neill is determined to continue to nurse without having to hide her breasts. She observed, ’’You wouldn’t tell a woman feeding with a bottle to cover up the bottle.’’

The 18-year-old also encourages other mothers to follow her example and not be afraid of what people say or think. She noted, ’’I would recommend for moms to just go into it without a care in the world. Your baby comes first.’’

Just like Shania O’Neill is fighting for her right to breastfeed publicly, some celebrity mothers are also speaking up about the importance of normalizing this natural act, and we admire them for it.

I agree that she should feed her child if her child is hungry, regardless of what anyone else thinks. The only thing I think might be off a bit in the story, is her opinion that 60 years ago, it would have been considered normal to breastfeed your child in public without covering them. I think that people would have likely been more close minded then. I encountered many more prudish thinking people not even half that long ago and know that my grandma's generation was way more narrow minded. I think you would have heard less about it due to the lack of social media. I don't believe that society would have been as welcoming as they are now, sadly. We can hope for better days.

Shania, I congratulate you on your decision to say "my baby comes first".
I even encourage my granddaughters to breastfeed her dolls. People seeing her do so for the first time laugh, but it should not be funny, it should be natural x
