Lately, more and more celebrity moms have started to open up about the unique and powerful experience of giving birth to their babies at home. Many of them gave interviews and wrote essays and posts on social media to share their empowering stories with the world. And although home birth might not be for everyone and there are a lot of things a mom-to-be should consult with a doctor about before making this decision, we can’t help but feel incredibly proud of the mothers who chose to share their unique experience with us.

We at Bright Side are so happy for these new moms, and their stories are guaranteed to give the daily dose of inspiration that all of us need.

1. Ashley Graham

This model and a body activist chose to give birth to her first child in the comfort of her own home. Graham shared her story on her Pretty Big Deal podcast and said that being in the hospital makes her anxious and she was happy she had a very ’chill environment’ at home. “Nothing prepares you for just how magical and intense giving birth is. I’m so grateful that I was able to deliver naturally in my home with my husband by my side for all 6 hours of labor,” she said.

2. Hilary Duff

The Material Girls star welcomed her third child at home, surrounded by her husband, and her 2 older children. The actress shared a personal video of her water birth on her Instagram account. “It was so absolutely lovely and rewarding (and shocking) that after giving birth to my baby girl we hugged... For the first time, in my mind, I like to believe that she was saying ’Good job, mom’. We did it. Together,” she wrote.

3. Alyson Hannigan

The How I Met Your Mother actress had 2 homebirths and said it was the right choice for her. “I don’t like hospitals and the idea of being in labor somewhere I don’t like at all wasn’t how I wanted to bring my kids into the world. For me, the choice [to give birth at home] was phenomenal,” she said.

4. Bekah Martinez

The reality show star opened up about her experience in a heartfelt Instagram post. Martinez wrote that the experience of giving birth to her son was beautiful and joyful, and that it was just the way she wanted it to be. “I am so privileged to be wealthy and healthy enough to birth in the comfort of my home, surrounded by tender and compassionate care,” she wrote.

5. Kehlani

The singer and first-time mom shared that she gave birth to her daughter at home, standing up in the shower. “Becoming a mother made me have even more respect for my mother, my grandmother, single mamas, working mamas, every kind of mom,” she wrote.

6. Eva Amurri

The Mothers and Daughters star shared the birth story of her son Mateo on her website. The mom-of-3 said that unmedicated home birth taught her to trust herself. “It showed me that I have love in so many places, and that even the most delicate and heartbreaking of changes can still bring about the most beautiful futures,” she wrote.

7. Alanis Morissette

The award-winning singer said she never wanted to give birth in a hospital and she was happy to have her husband by her side as she delivered her son. “The experience was beyond pain. I basically had to be the little soldier that I am and really focus on this new beautiful creature coming out of me,” she said.

8. Mayim Bialik

The Big Bang Theory star gave birth to her son at home and was happy to share her experience. “Homebirth is right for people who want to take natural birth to the next level: Let me labor on the floors I paced in anticipation, let me labor in the rooms of the house where I mused on sleepless nights what this moment would be like. Let me birth with the smells of the kitchen and the faint giggles of the boy who will be this child’s buddy,” she said.

9. Ricki Lake

The Hairspray actress shared that her first child was born in the hospital, and the experience was hard for her. When she got pregnant with her second child, she wanted to have a more positive experience and opted for a home birth. “After my water birth, I was shouting from the rooftops, ’If I can do it, you can do it,” she said.

Would you opt for a home or a hospital birth? If you were giving an interview about your birth experience, what would you like to share?
