My Niece Ruined My Coat and Now I’m Suing Her

It is never easy to deal with a family conflict, especially if there is money in between. This time, we’d like to tell you the story of a woman who was caught in one of these conflicts with her niece and sister. She decided to vent on social media and ask what would be the best way to deal with this delicate situation.

You’re right they are wrong. Sue her mom and maybe she will learn a lesson. You could have her arrested and with the price of the coat it would be a felony destruction of property. I would let them know that via a lawyer. She sounds like a spoiled brat who needs to learn there are consequences to her actions.

We decided to look into how best to deal with such a situation:

Think clearly. When angry, our first impulse is to insist that we are right and try to win the argument at all costs. If both sides hold strongly to their opinions, the conflict will not only be difficult to resolve, it will be impossible. It is better to calm down, listen, and do your best to reach an agreement.

Offer a payment plan. If you ask a person to pay back such a large amount of money all at once, it may be overwhelming for them and their family. Instead, you can offer a payment plan in several small amounts, and they are more likely to agree easily.

Think about other alternatives. If you are not seeing any progress on repaying the money, you may be able to opt for other forms of payment, such as jobs or chores for them to do around the house. If you both sit down and brainstorm what things they can do, there is a better chance of paying off the debt and avoiding major conflicts.

Ask yourself what is most important to you. You may be going through an unfair situation and want things to work out in your favor. However, taking legal action against your family, while fair, may also mean losing your relationship with them. Do you really want to take that risk? Whether you go one way or the other, you must be absolutely sure of your decision and stick to the possible consequences.

Here is another case of a woman who, tired of putting up with a sister-in-law who was always looking for ways to save some money at the expense of others, found a drastic solution to end the problem once and for all.

Update said the coat was insured and that her husband spoke to the brother in law and showed him the video of the "prank". Then told him that if he went through insurance he would need to file charges and that his insurance company would go after the bil family which would mean their insurance premiums would be much higher. Bil asked if there was a way to avoid it so they came to an agreement that the niece's car will be sold and if the money from the car wasn't enough then niece would be forced to get a job to pay off the rest. Oh and she was grounded for a long time
