Are there any options that you can do with food? besides throwing it away/destroying it or giving it away... doesn't seem like there are many other options?
What Happens to Food That Gets Seized at the Airport

After a nice trip where we’ve collected lots of objects and foods that we want to bring back home, we may face a negative experience at customs that can shatter our hopes and leave us completely disheartened. Nevertheless, we can avoid this rejection if we learn about food safety regulations beforehand. If we disregard them, our precious food may go into grinders, get donated, or even get incinerated.
Bright Side will tell you what happens with food that’s not allowed through customs and how to prevent it from getting seized.
It may get donated.
Food seized at customs is usually disposed of in several ways. However, to avoid wasting perfectly good food, airports may donate it to food banks.
It might go into the grinders.
In most cases, food is confiscated at customs to prevent the spreading of certain foodborne illnesses, which may be dangerous for plants or even animals from that country. Fruits and vegetables are frequently thrown away and ground up to keep insects and viruses from accidentally entering a foreign territory.
It could get incinerated.
When the seized food isn’t suitable for the grinder, or in the case of seeds that are forbidden because they may carry plagues or insects, other more effective methods of disposal are likely to be used. Customs employees consider incineration to be a totally viable option. Some cases have been reported where chestnuts were directly incinerated to get rid of any possible foodborne illnesses.
Have you ever traveled and weren’t allowed to take some type of food or object with you? Tell us about your own experiences.
