Why More Women Are Shaving Their Heads

There are many reasons why a woman may choose head shaving, but recently, a huge number of women have preferred the hair-free look. They include anyone from celebrities to women using the trending hashtag, #girlswithshavedheads. Of course, this is not something completely new, as we have watched some great heroines go bald, like G.I Jane (Demi Moore) and Black Panther’s Okoye (Danai Gurira).

It can be empowering.

To be able to stand out from the crowd can be a confidence booster, especially if it’s for having a striking buzz cut. Although several iconic stars have taken the plunge, it can still be considered something major. Even if shaving off your hair isn’t meant to be a statement, it’s still a bold move, and there are plenty of women who feel more empowered after shaving their heads:

“It actually is empowering, and there’s a sense of freedom to not be bound by what society views as beauty. As a professional makeup artist, I’ve met so many women who either have survived cancer or are currently fighting cancer; their struggles dealing with self-esteem issues from losing their hair touched me so much.”

It goes against beauty stereotypes.

Despite beauty coming in all forms and colors, society still has certain beauty standards when it comes to women that are targeted by the media’s focus on women’s hair and beauty products.

It’s said that women who have shaved heads are seen as frightening or frightened, stereotypically. For men, it’s viewed as something more fashionable, but for women, it’s seen as being out of control since it’s not ’normal.’ Although it’s rare, a woman who shaves her head becomes more brave and full of strength.

Many women have found that they have been able to step outside of these stereotypes by simply shaving their heads, and they rock it! It’s such a head-turner that many celebrities and famous movie characters have used this look to create strong female protagonists.

Their hair can be donated.

Shaving off your hair can be a fantastic way to raise money for a charity, no matter its length. This hair can also be donated to certain charities for medical wigs, such as for those living with alopecia and other health conditions.

If you want to donate your hair but don’t want to shave it completely, it’s recommended to cut it with a clipper length number of 1 or 2. The clippers that you use should be clean and well-oiled while being used. Simply brush your clipper blades between each shave, then wipe the blades with a cloth and some disinfectant.

It improves the hair’s health.

One reason why women shave off their hair is to help healthier hair to regrow. This is for women who want new, fresh hair, especially if they’ve frazzled their hair after years of intense dying and heat treatments.

Although heat doesn’t damage your hair every time, it can damage it if it’s over 400 degrees. Even if you have thick and strong hair, it might start to get split ends. Staying below the 300-degree mark is the best option. And if you’ve already damaged your hair, shaving it off can be a way to have a brand new start to regrow strong, beautiful hair.

It’s a hassle-free haircut.

This haircut is considerably lower on the hair maintenance chart compared to other styles. This is perfect for women who don’t want to follow a time-consuming hair care routine. It’s an easy fix because they can decide how much work to put in, as well as the fact that it can mean fewer trips to the salon, leaving them with more money in the bank.

However, you may still need a hair routine even if you do decide to shave it off. Showing not only your hair, but also your scalp, is important. It’s advisable to use a facial moisturizer or scalp serum to help keep your skin hydrated. If you don’t shave your hair all the way, you can use a dime-size amount of conditioner or hair serum. Also, try not to forget to apply sun protection on your scalp since it’s completely exposed if you shave completely.

There is no reason to not try, it will grow back.

Taking the plunge can seem daunting to many women, it may even seem like a risk. Perhaps you are worried you won’t be taken seriously at work or that you will be considered too ’masculine’ and lose your femininity.

At the end of the day, whether you want to shake up your look a bit or make a social stand, it is just hair and there is no harm in trying.

Many powerful women have successfully pulled off the look throughout the years.
