“I’ve Loved Every Single Day,” David Foster Shares About Welcoming a New Baby in His Seventies

When it comes to being an older father, musician David Foster has no regrets. Recently, the 72-year-old opened up about welcoming his son with his fifth wife, Katharine McPhee. They have been through this journey together, and the loving parents are now sharing their experience.

His marriage with Katharine McPhee

Katharine McPhee and David Foster initially met when McPhee competed on season 5 of American Idol in 2006 and sang Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing,” which Foster wrote. McPhee and Foster were first romantically associated with each other in May 2017 when they were seen dining together in Malibu, although they refused to address any dating rumors at the time.

In her cover story for Health in December 2017, McPhee said she was really, really fond of Foster and thought he was an incredible person. “I’ve known him since I was 21 years old, you know? He produced my first single. So he’s been really good to me. People can say whatever they want,” said McPhee.

The pair tied the knot on June 28, 2019, in London.

Foster is a father of 6.

Foster is a father of daughters Allison, 52, Amy, 49, Sara, 41, Erin, 40, and Jordan, 36, from previous relationships. At this time, David Foster has been married a total of 5 times. In 2021, the couple welcomed their son, Rennie.

He has no regrets.

He told People that although becoming a father again at his age was ’’not something’’ he anticipated, he still hasn’t regretted a single day of it. He has loved every single day of it.

Recalling the standard idea of, “Oh, well you were so young when you had your children, and you were working day and night, you never saw them,” Foster admits there is some truth to that, sadly, for his [older] kids. “I was just working a lot,” the musician said. Even though he’s working a lot now too, he’ll cancel anything just to hang with his newborn baby.

They are loving life as a mom and dad.

The couple also shared their son’s passion for music, noting that he has already been performing on the piano and an electronic drum pad. The couple believes that “he’ll be musical,” but later, Foster added that kids, oddly enough, will do something for a while, and it’ll amaze you, and then they’ll just drop it and won’t do it anymore.

They don’t know if the drumming thing is here to stay, as Foster explained, “I’d rather he have a tennis racket in his hand than a drumstick, to tell you the truth. But anyway, if he ends up being a drummer, that would be great too,” said the 72-year-old daddy.

What is the age gap between you and your partner? How many kids do you have?
