8 Easy Ways to Improve Your Body Without Spending Money
Sometimes, we feel like we need to spend a fortune on high-end products to actually take care of our bodies and health. In reality, living a better lifestyle doesn’t have to rely only on the things we can consume, as there are a lot of inexpensive alternatives that we can try with a dose of creativity and determination.
To help you on your journey of self-improvement, Bright Side prepared these 8 tips that won’t cost you a thing.
1. Exercises to get rid of double chin.
There are some simple and easy exercises you can do to target your double chin:
- Tilt your head back and look toward the ceiling.
- Push your lower jaw to feel a stretch under your chin.
- Hold it for 10 seconds.
- Relax.
There is also this one that you can follow:
- Tilt your head back and look at the ceiling.
- Tilt to the right.
- Slide your bottom jaw forward.
- Hold for 10 seconds.
- Relax.
- Repeat the same movement, with your head turned to the left.
2. Make a body scrub with coffee grounds.
After a nice and warm cup of coffee, you can join your used coffee grounds with a few other ingredients you have in your home to make a body exfoliator without spending a penny. You’ll need:
- 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds.
- 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar.
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
Mix everything well and store it in a glass jar, use it to exfoliate your face and body during the shower. This mixture has a lot of benefits, like reducing cellulite, preventing aging, and improving circulation.
3. Improvise exercise tools with things you have in your home.
Different from what fitness marketers tell you, you don’t need to buy a lot of fancy equipment to start working out and get healthy. An equally valid solution is to get creative and improvise with the things you have in your own home. Of course, it won’t be the same as the latest ab trimmer on TV, but if you put enough effort into actually doing the exercises, the result will be just as good. You can use water bottles filled with sand as dumbbells, or other heavy objects, basically anything your imagination can come up with.
4. Learn workout sessions from internet videos.
The internet is an amazing tool that we can use to learn all kinds of stuff, and in most cases, for free. This way, you can also use it to learn exercises that will help you achieve the best results. As we have a lot of variety of content in these platforms, you can choose which routine fits best according to your preferences, your lifestyle, and your agenda.
5. Remove your body hair at home with sugar wax.
If you can’t afford to go to a salon for waxing every time and want a better alternative than razor blades, you can try making your own sugar wax, which takes only a few ingredients, and can be done at home, at no extra cost. For this recipe, you’ll need:
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup of lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons of water
- 1 tablespoon of salt
Melt everything into a pot over medium-high heat, and stir it once it begins to boil to mix everything. Allow it to continue cooking until it’s a caramelized color, like honey. Once it’s ready, transfer it into a container and allow it to cool. You can reheat the mixture and use it again.
Before waxing, there are some steps you need to follow: clean the skin, do a gentle exfoliation to remove dead skin cells, apply powder to remove any excess moisture, and a little bit of oil, so the hair will stick easily. The wax should always be applied in the direction of the hair growth and pulled off in the opposite direction. Make sure to test to see whether it’s not too hot before applying, especially in sensitive areas.
6. Start dancing
Dancing is a good way to put your body to work and burn some calories. It also has a lot of health benefits, like improving the condition of your heart and lungs, increasing muscular strength, aerobic fitness, weight management, posture, and even providing better social skills. You can perform it while doing some other activities, like doing chores, especially if you’re at home alone. Just put on the most exciting music you can think of, and free the dancer inside of you.
7. The benefits of ice cubes
There are a few ways we can use ice cubes during our beauty routines: to reduce under-eye bags, you just have to gently press one on your skin for 10-15 minutes. You can also shrink a pimple with this same technique, as the cold reduces inflammation by constricting the blood vessels. Besides that, rubbing ice on your face improves circulation and results in a healthy glow.
8. Wash your bed linens often.
Our bedsheets, especially our pillowcases, are constantly in contact with our skin as we sleep. These places can hold dirt, oil, and bacteria from our bodies, hair, and the environment, creating a breeding ground for acne. By washing them often, like daily, when it comes to pillowcases, you can guarantee that your skin is always in touch with something that won’t damage your face or your body.
