I'm pleased to know that. Now I won't be going to bed with a grumbling stomach and I will definitely beware of the amount of consumption
What Happens When You Eat Before Going to Bed
When you want to lose weight, one of the first things you plan to banish is night snacks. Although many people believe that eating before you go to sleep may cause you to gain weight, it actually works the other way around. In fact, hitting the snack drawer on an empty stomach might be one of the reasons it takes you so long to burn that stubborn belly fat.
Here at Bright Side, we also used to shy away from bedtime snacks for fear of gaining weight. But we definitely will opt for a delicious late-night bowl of cereal after doing this research.
1. It might help you lose weight.
If you’re a late-night snacker, we have good news for you. Having a small, healthy snack before you go to bed might actually help you shed some extra pounds. Many people believe that a slower metabolism during sleep causes you to gain weight, but in reality, your metabolism is just as high at night, and your body needs lots of energy while you sleep. In fact, snacking after dinner can help you tame the hunger and avoid overeating. Studies have shown that having just one bowl of cereal and milk 90 minutes after dinner might help you lose an average of 1.85 pounds.
2. You may sleep better.
3. It helps to keep your blood sugar in balance.
Many people can’t start the day without a hot cup of coffee because the drop in their blood sugar level makes them feel exhausted no matter how many hours they slept. People with diabetes may wake up in the morning with high blood sugar, even if they haven’t eaten anything before sleep, and other people might experience low blood sugar during the night, which disturbs their sleep. If you’re familiar with any of these symptoms, try having a small snack at nighttime to balance out your blood sugar.
4. It might help you maintain muscle mass.
You might be spending hours at the gym and lifting weights several times a week, but if you’re going to bed on an empty stomach, it can actually sabotage all your efforts. If you’re feeling hungry before sleep, your body can keep you mentally alert, which, in turn, will affect your metabolism and slow your body’s ability to convert protein into muscle.
Are you a late-night snacker? What do you usually eat before going to bed?
