The Love Story of the Prince and Princess of Wales, a Tale That Not Even Disney Could Have Conceived

Thanks to wonderful childhood fairy tales or classic animated movies, many girls have always dreamed of becoming a princess ever since we were little. They fantasize about wearing a long gown and a crown made of diamonds, living in a castle, and having a handsome prince by their side. But for some lucky people, that fantasy becomes a reality. We would like to tell you the love story of our beloved Kate Middleton and Prince William, members of the British royal family.

It all started at the University of St. Andrews. They were both studying Art History, and William would often run into Kate in the halls of the school. Although they eventually forged a friendship, it took a while due to Kate’s shyness. According to Kate, when she first met her future husband, she blushed and ran away.

However, it all came together over time. They would have breakfast in the cafeteria with their friends, and they bonded over their love for skiing. “When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her,” William said. But their romance only began later, they started out as good friends.

Kate and William’s friendship continued to develop. They moved in with two other friends in an off-campus apartment. “It just sort of blossomed from there, really, we just saw more of each other, hung out a bit more, and did stuff,” William commented. In an attempt to impress her, the prince would try to cook fancy dinners for her but would end up burning the food or setting something on fire, so she would try to help him and take control of the whole situation.

Apparently, their romance became official at a college fashion show titled “Art of Seduction,” where Kate wore an outfit designed by Charlotte Todd, one of her roommates. They both opened up to their roommates about their relationship, and the gossip quickly spread throughout the campus until it got to the press.

A harsh reality

For Kate and William, college was a bubble where they lived happily, as the British press had agreed not to disturb the prince while he was studying. This gave the couple a bit of privacy. But upon graduation, little did they know that the bubble would burst in the real world. Before that, Kate’s father took a photo of them together, where they looked beautiful and carefree.

Meanwhile, the British tabloid press didn’t like Kate’s non-aristocratic background, and they called her family “the middle-class Middletons.” They nicknamed Kate and her sister Pippa “the wisteria sisters” (because of how fast they could climb) and criticized their mom for chewing gum.

The meeting of Kate and Prince Charles

When Prince William graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Kate was there to show her support, and so was the queen. It was her first royal event, and it sparked many engagement rumors. There’s not much information about Kate and Prince Charles’s first encounter, but the princess revealed that their meeting was really nice. “I was quite nervous about meeting William’s father, but he’s very, very welcoming and very friendly, so it couldn’t have gone easier, really, for me,” she said.

Kate wearing her elegant red coat and black hat set off a media frenzy and people started drawing comparisons to William’s late mother, Diana. The paparazzi kept following the young couple closely as they went about their day-to-day lives.

So Kate’s lawyers had to take matters into their own hands and announced that they would take legal action against the photographers. The British newspapers decided to ban the use of those images. But the media intrusion created a lot of pressure on the couple.

After being together for five years, they decided to go their separate ways. Supposedly, the separation was “amicable.” They were both heavily invested in their careers — Kate as a props buyer for Jigsaw and William as an apprentice armored corps commander.

“It was very much trying to find our own way, and we were growing up,” said the prince. Kate’s lawyer made it clear that neither his client nor her family would speak on the subject, even off the record.

Months later, Prince William and Prince Harry organized a benefit concert at Wembley Stadium in London in honor of their late mother, Diana, who would have turned 46 at that time. The two brothers helped to organize the performance of the world’s most famous artists and singers. Proceeds from the concert went to Diana’s charities, as well as to those supported by William and Harry.

A day before the concert, William was asked whether or not Kate would attend. “I’ve got lots of friends coming. Everyone’s going to be there on the night, and it’s going to be a very good night,” the prince said, to which his brother joked, “Really well avoided William, very diplomatic.”

Officially together

Kate and William got back together when the prince received his wings after completing his RAF training. The event that confirmed the seriousness of their relationship was when William was unable to attend the wedding of his cousin Peter Phillips to Autumn Kelly, and Kate went in his place. Inside sources revealed that the prince’s decision to let Kate stand in for him was a statement of the strength of their relationship.

Prince William proposed to Kate in a hut in Mount Kenya, Africa. “We had a little private time away together with some friends, and I just decided that it was the right time, really. We’d been talking about marriage for a while, so it wasn’t a massively big surprise,” the prince declared.

For Kate, it was a very romantic moment, as William gave her a brilliant blue sapphire, the ring of his late mother, Princess Diana. The couple shared the news with the world.

Before the wedding took place, Queen Elizabeth II conferred the dukedom on her grandson and granddaughter-in-law. “The Queen has today been pleased to confer a Dukedom on Prince William of Wales,” the announcement stated. “His titles will be Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn, and Baron Carrickfergus. Prince William thus becomes His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge, and Miss Catherine Middleton on marriage will become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge.”

The couple’s dream finally came true. Kate and William got married on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey in London. Prince Harry was the best man, and both brothers wore traditional military uniforms, while Kate wore a beautiful Alexander McQueen dress.

About 1,900 people attended the ceremony. The happy couple rode through the streets of London in a carriage to Buckingham Palace, where they exchanged a couple of kisses on the balcony before leaving. Afterward, they went to a dinner party with around 300 guests and hosted by Prince Charles.

The new members of the family

The family began to grow, and they welcomed their first baby on July 22, 2013. His name is George Alexander Louis, but he is better known as His Royal Highness, Prince George of Cambridge.

By May 2, 2015, the family welcomed another baby. It was a pretty baby girl named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, after William’s late mother, and her formal title is Her Royal Highness, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.

The family of four became a family of five on April 23, 2018, when the couple’s third baby boy, whom they named Louis Arthur Charles, arrived into the world. Another important member of the family was their dog, Lupo. It lived nine years with the family and left a great memory in their hearts.

After all those years of relationship and forming a beautiful family, Prince William and Kate have now become the Prince and Princess of Wales. King Charles III made the official announcement during his first speech in the United Kingdom after the death of Queen Elizabeth.

“With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given,” the king said of the couple.

In the meantime, we will continue to bear witness to their beautiful love story.
