10 Times Celebrities Shared Their Invisible Struggle

year ago

With all the makeup and costumes, actors can look completely unrecognizable in movies. To us, it all becomes pure magic. But to actors, this job is much harder than it looks. There are many times they have to literally talk themselves into it and go through a lot of struggle and suffering. And at times they are even pretty close to quitting and forgetting it all like a very bad dream.

We at Bright Side have found some curious examples of transformations that required the actors a great amount of patience and love for their job.

1. Kit Harington

Kit Harington says that Jon Snow’s costume really allowed him to like the character. Which was great! But it all weighed a ton and smelled awful. And it seemed like they put more weight on the piece every year. Probably, he said jokingly, the costume designer simply hates actors.

2. Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey had to wear the Grinch costume 100 times. And each time it was pure torment. Carrey even wanted to quit when a producer found an expert in training CIA operatives to resist torture. They had many ’helpful’ recommendations. But after all the actor went on: “It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.” And said that all in all the BeeGees helped him to get through.

3. Robert Downey Jr.

Initially, everything was okay filming the first Iron Man. It all changed when they started to shoot the scene where Downey Jr. had to be in a whole suit. The director asked him to start moving forward. But after they put the helmet on the actor found out he couldn’t see a thing in it because of those LED lights. Happily, in later movies, they moved to CGI which made it all much simpler to do.

4. Paul Bettany

Paul Bettany says that wearing that Vision costume was quite a painful experience. The material was super-tight. He couldn’t hear well and had to wear it for 10 hours on the set. Every time it took about three and a half hours to put it on. But only 30 seconds to take it off. The actor just ripped it up and did it with great pleasure.

5. Tom Felton

Tom Felton was actually happy to play a bad guy in Harry Potter. But even enjoying his character he had to make a sacrifice. The actor has natural chestnut hair. So he had to die his hair platinum blond every 10 days. “It built some superhuman resistance,” said Felton, “but it seems to have survived.”

6. Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence revealed that transforming into the X-Men’s Mystique was a really exhausting process. Sometimes it could last for 8 hours! And soon they had to figure out another way to turn her blue — the body paint they used caused nasty skin irritations. They even had to call a doctor to the set. Luckily for the actress after that, she wore only a bodysuit from the neck down.

7. Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston reveals that she actually hates ’The Rachel’ haircut despite the fact it became her signature look on that hit sitcom. “I think it was the ugliest haircut I’ve ever seen,” she said. And she admits she couldn’t do it on her own so always needed her hairstylist attached to her hip. Maybe spending so much time in hands of a professional stylist is after all the main reason why she didn’t like it so much? Who knows!

8. Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus was literally growing up on stage while filming Hannah Montana. She was 11 at the time playing a 16-year-old ’in a wig and a ton of makeup’. That show was everything she saw so knew what a girl was supposed to be from being there. All in all, later it caused some body dysmorphia and anxiety. And she didn’t understand who she really was for a pretty long time.

9. Anthony Daniels

Anthony Daniels could never imagine that he would ever play the gold-plated robot C-3PO. But he did. And did it in nine Star Wars movies! His costume consisted of 19 pieces and it took more than two hours to put all of them on. What was more unpleasant is that the actor had to remain suited for the entire day’s filming and was unable to sit or relax.

10. Benedict Cumberbatch

The actor complained about Sherlock’s costumes that had such a small waist. Yes, those were well-cut, good-looking suits. But he couldn’t breathe or digest properly in them. Though he admits that his own clothes resemble the detective’s garments very much and now he cannot go out in public wearing them.
