10 Celebrities Who Are More Like Us Than We Think
In the eyes of ordinary people, celebrities lead lifestyles that are unattainable for the most of us. We associate celebrities with luxuries and mindless spending of money. However, that is not always the case. You will be surprised to know that your favorite celebrities can also be frugal, and refuse to buy a new phone until the old one stops working completely, or hire anyone to cook for themselves.
Bright Side prepared a compilation of famous people who did not let money get to their head and remained as humble as ever. We read about their stories of how they act in their ordinary life and couldn’t help but think about how similar they are to us.
1. Sarah Michelle Gellar confessed that she uses coupons all the time.
The star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer said that she and her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., shop often, so she has to ask what products are on sale, and she also uses coupons. She also noted that “on sale” does not necessarily mean bad, and when you’re buying fish, it probably means it’s just been overcaught.
2. Jennifer Lawrence said that because of her upbringing she knows the value of money.
Jennifer Lawrence may be able to afford to use a mini-bar in hotels, but she always feels that there is something wrong with the overpriced items there because she was raised to value money. Even though she “has lots of it” she still feels closeness to her roots, which is why in her 2013 interview she said that she still drives the same humble car and hasn’t bought a house.
3. Mick Jagger refuses to throw anything away as soon as it stops working, and looks for ways to fix it.
The singer described himself as “frugal” and said that he is not from the generation that can simply throw away a computer if it breaks. He said he would rather see a car get repaired than junked.
4. Shailene Woodley said fame did not change her approach to life.
The young star of The Fault in Our Stars said in an interview that she does not have any interest in money, so her life has not changed much since she starred in a few popular projects. Woodley claims that she has no extravagances, so she has not “sprung on anything.”
5. Renée Zellweger was praised by her colleagues for remaining a humble person.
Renée was the leading star of Bridget Jones Diary, and she shocked her co-star Debra Gillett by not acting like she is above everyone. In fact, Gillett said that Zellweger “sat around on boxes eating her lunch out of a disposable carton like the rest of the crew.” She also joked around, and was incredibly welcoming towards everyone.
6. Lady Gaga lived in the same studio apartment as a superstar, just like before her fame.
The singer revealed that she barely spends any money because it does not matter to her. She still lived in the same tiny studio during the height of her career, and her manager even got concerned that she had lost her credit card, when in fact she simply does not like spending money.
7. Keanu Reeves takes the metro and gives up his seats to other passangers.
There are a lot of stories about how nice Keanu Reeves really is. In 2011, a video of him in the subway went viral. He can be seen simply sitting in the metro, and then when he sees a lady who has to stand during the ride, he offers to give up his seat for her, which she accepts. Keanu stands up without hesitation and continues the ride standing up.
8. Julia Roberts always cooks her own food.
In fact, one of the biggest stars in the world Julia Roberts doesn’t have a nanny, a butler, or a chef, like many would think. She joked that people are surprised to hear that she cooks by herself and ask her “How can you do that?” So she responds playfully that “hunger is a great motivator” when it comes to cooking.
9. Halle Berry always thinks about the future and saves up instead of spending money.
The actress said that while she is thankful for her fortune, she is always afraid that she could lose it all in a second. So she plans her finances and saves up money rather than spending it. She described herself as someone who “does not have 10 cars and a lot of diamonds.”
10. Chris Evans only recently moved on from his 7-year-old phone.
Turns out the actor, who is most known for his involvement with Marvel movies, is not the one to buy a new phone every 6 months. In fact, up until recently he was using an iPhone 6S, which was released in 2015.
When it was finally time to say goodbye to his old phone, he wrote an Instagram caption which reads: “RIP iPhone 6. We had a good run. I’ll miss your home button. I won’t miss the nightly battle of trying to get you to charge. Or your grainy pictures.”
